Do you know that feeling?

When there is a tangible connection between the audience and the artist, this huge vibe that happens when the artist sends out energy that the audience picks up on, amplifies, and sends back? This huge cycle of positive madness? This Fire that exists between us…

My guess is you do know that feeling. I sure do, and I know Fire does. In one of our first conversations, before I even called him Fire, he told me about this feeling. He told me about going to see Underworld, he told me about teaching drums to kids with autism. He told me about producing HipHop beats, playing the drums in a Punkrock n’Roll band and he told me about Technics turntables in dusty attics.

Now I always knew this was one musical kid but man since we decided to call him Fire he decided to make that name mean something.
This guy produces, DJ’s, does hybrid live sets and frequents radio shows, sometimes to speak his mind but mostly to be silent and let the music do the talking. We found him at more and more festivals these years besides his usual late-night sets at various underground clubs in Utrecht and Amsterdam.

"Bitonal Creatures" (StoKed, Fire bewteen us - CODEX Recordings) hit the Beatport Techno Top 100 early 2021 and stayed there for a full month. Fire's other collab with StoKed, "Girl With the Red Hair" (IAMT) rocked the charts late 2020, and before that Fire between us, Kepp - Angelic System (Minitech Recordings) was up there for a full month early summer.
As part of the Minitech Recordings team you can find Fire between us frequenting their label nights and releasing on the label. 

Fire between us is Techno. Wonderful, up-tempo solid techno full of emotion. Techno that never gets dull or boring, but rather plays with your mood and leaves you exhausted and energized at the same time.

Having mastered the art of modern production, Belgium’s Olivier Grégoire hasbecome one of the world’s most renowned dance music artists, with a bevy of high-profile releases under his various pseudonyms. You may know him as Kolombo, thehouse player with a discography that charts esteemed imprints like Kompakt, Turbo,Diynamic, Noir Music, Suara, Snatch!, Sweat and most recently Dirtybird, with thesummer 2018 single “It’s Gettin’ Hot.” Though he’s also made waves as the LouLouPlayers with his partner Jerome. Together they’ve toured the world, and launched theLouLou Records imprint, a house label with several releases from Kolombo and thePlayers.With shows at Belgium’s Tomorrowland, all across America, in Russia, Australia,and in the hip party capital of Berlin, the past few years have seen Kolombo’s starcontinue to rise as a DJ almost everywhere. But especially in South America, wherehe regularly plays major festivals and clubs. Grégoire’s relationship with the famedBrazilian open-air venue Warung has quickly grown, and 2019 will see the release ofsomething very special on the Warung Recordings label, along with another outing onDirtybird.Last but certainly not least, Grégoire is also part of the highly touted Mugwumpoutfit, a leftfield house duo launched with Belgian dance music pioneer GeoffroyMugwump in 2008. has no fear of failing, for if he shall fail it will be with utter jubilation. he has nothing to loose, but is willing to risk everything. this makes him uncomfortable and unpredictable for all those who dare nothing in life. one thought that never troubles him during his morning toilet is: "impulsive menschen kennen keine grenzen".
even though being a member of the formation deichkind has evolved dj phono into a different person one should refrain from confusing the two. neither does dj phono produce music for deichkind, nor does their repertoire appear in his dj set.
he is the brain behind the deichkind liveshow and the whole overriding concept hidden within the techno lunacy. right from the off he has continuously and tirelessly attempted to force a gap between proletarian and sophisticated culture. he is a hellbender and merciless critic of the band luring them towards the end of the branch.
dj phono and bon jovi have nothing in common. this is why phono composes music that he likes. “party is my profession” is what he usually replies when being asked, why at 5 am in the morning he is still to be found at the pudel club - sober. there is always something new to discover, no matter where you look.
this explains why he has turned his back on the usual “hau den lukas”-method and ignores expectations. he rather likes to pick the bananas from the trees of slow mounting tensions, because dj phono is never bored on stage: yes, he will even turn of his mobile phone off just to be alone with you.
categories and limitations are only to be vanquished. people often create strange convoluted sentences in an attempt to describe his music. someone once said very fittingly: “emotional-temporary-minimal-but-then-more-and-more-techno-with- pop-appeal-thru-techhouse-suitable-for-dancing-taking-the-cake-techno-electro+surprise”. music associated with labels like kompakt, get physical, dial, playhouse, smallville, systematic, dfa, environ, ibadan, border community, ostgut ton, pampa, circus company, bpitch control and liebe detail. boring, dreary minimal-poppycock, is simply left out.
2011 he will start a new chapter.
dj phono will finally release his new album “welcome to wherever you’re not” on hamburg’s record label diynamic. the release will be flanked with a supranormal liveperformance. LEDs, hydraulics, roboter, radio technology and projections alternate the room. daft punk and etienne de crecy will be delighted. the concept comprises artists developing individual visual concepts for each album song and implying the respective localities and contexts.
dj phono is also a member of the band extra (1978). in 1998 he was european-vice-scratch-champion and incidentally, when he’s in the mood, he also produces and mixes music for others – former cooperation’s include artists such as erobi- que, egoexpress, commercial breakup, international pony and die goldenen zitronen.
dj phono has no hobbies.
