This started off as a love song, before you dismiss it immediately as I know everyone is getting sick and tired of me dedicating my work to somebody, this is NOT a love song. It just started off that way and once listening to it, I realized if this is what my love sounds like then it's a scary thing. LOL. 
Now if you're into rock/techno based horror movie soundtracks like some John Carpenter type stuff, then I guess thats where this would fall into. At least in my opinion, either way there's a creepy vibe to it. It's called HIDE for a reason people.

This is actually two tracks off my School Days LP from 2009, remixed live at a local venue sometime in 2008. If you caught any of my late night shows from 2006 -2009  you know that we drop kick it into high gear after 2 AM and the harder music comes out. A friend of mine said to me, "You can't realistically do a two part song in this day and age, people won't respond to that" 
 OH! My mistake! I guess I'll just delete this entire album then. LOL.

Since Myspace seems to be taking my music down, because I assume they are just too awesome, I'm reposting this. I might even get the tapes out and re-master it sometime if somebody actually cares. Anyhow, this track is from 2009-2010, I played it live using synths and samples for about a year before hunkering down and recording it, the joy of using hardware!

Well yeah, it's been awhile, sorry if I don't have the time for myspace, but I'm going to make more of an effort. 

 So here we go Fragments, it's a track I've been playing live for about a year now. Thought I would lay it down and record it for everybody. I posted what I call the "Rough Comp" because I used a really rough, almost broken down dbx 163 compressor I nabbed off ebay for next to nothing. Poor soul didn't know it was worth so much. It came dinged all to hell, with chips off the wood panels. 
 Onwards, this track consists of two synths. My brand new and re-furbished by myself Yamaha DX7 that I got off Kijiji for $200. The poor bastard tried to change the battery and somehow fried it. A quick function mode and update through midiox, and she was back and running. I replaced all the ram modules, and put in the new updated anniversary firmware chip. Did the easy swap battery mod, and put in a new keybed, straight off a Korg Triton the studio had laying around. Nobody has noticed thus far. LOL. FYI, if you are wondering, yes they are the exact same keybed, Yamaha owns Korg... remember?

 The other synth was a Novation K-Station I borrowed from Long and McQuade. It's one of those permanent rental units that they can't sell because it's too damn beat up and they would no longer profit from it. Needless to say, three months later, they had to ambush me coming out of my house early in the morning to get it back. Best damn synth Novation ever made! I'd love to get the bigger version... or any version! I tried the X-Station and Xio out.... not the same, cheap and plastic, not even in the same ballpark of quality. Coolest function, the K-Station works as a native controller for V-Station and can even take V-Station patches (but not the other way around). 

 Used an Electribe EM1 running through a MoogerFooger for the drums. A Roland SP404 for the samples, and a laptop running Ableton 4 with a Emu 2x2 Xmidi, to sequence the midi. Played the damn synths myself (next time they are going to be sequenced, had enough of this nonsence) ran it all into a soundcraft 8 channel mixer, and then recorded the whole shebang onto 1/4" Tape to give it a nice hardware edge. Recorded the whole deal nice and hot, and the tape distortion sounds like butter to my ears. 

 The usual Roland SP-202 got put on duty for FX (filter) and my Digitech 002 took care of the verb and delay. Could I have done this in software? Yeah, would it sound the same or even be as much fun? No.... I like working in a mess of cables and having to run around adjusting knobs. 

 Bounced it twice, decided that was good enough and took it into ProTools for the studio magic. Fun stuff. 

And as far as the synth lines go, they are an inverted Lydian Augmented scale in D# with the second chorus played two octaves up, then back down. Simple as pie. 

Oh and what the hell does MySpace do to make all of my tracks sound like shit? Seriously.... request a CD, I can't believe what the fuck happened there.

 SO if you managed to read through all of that, there is a happy ending after all, Long and McQuade actually gave me the rental unit, big props to my salesman there who wishes to remain nameless. I spend boat loads of money there and I rented the unit so much he just changed it to a layaway sale and well, I got my k-station! :D

 Someone asked me once about the meaning of this song, well its simple, I was put on beta blockers for while and if you've ever taken them, they pretty much wipe your mind out. I started having Fragmented Memories, which made me depressed. So why not make a big room trance epic 10 minute monster of a track to express that?

So one night at the club, my buddy Fizz and I were getting overly hammered while the new DJ struggled with his plastic contraption controller and played the same 4 bar loop for 30 minutes. Fizz started yelling, "THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!" to each drum beat, making the very NEW DJ even more nervous and causing him to press more buttons and cut the loop in half. Now there was nothing but a drum beat thumping away, this made us laugh and we continued to yell "THUMP!" 
 This went on for a good ten more minutes before the resident DJ disconnected the kids laptop and plastic toy controller and patted him on the back. He glared over at us with a smirk on his face and we cheered like the drunken obnoxious judgmental pricks we are. After some real music came on, we started talking about myself producing a track called Thump Thump, maybe a hard techno track or a hard dance track. Fizz said, "No that's too obvious, make it progressive" 
 We laughed for a good five minutes at the idea, when two very young girls fell from the upstairs booth onto our table and started making out. Of course we cheered, and I yelled "CLAM BUMP!"
 So the owner comped our drinks, the girls were kicked out (even though we protested and wanted the show to continue) and a song was born. 
This is not the album version. There's three mixes of this track, and this is the one for friends, the internet and the b-side of the single. Enjoy.

This song comes from a session on the mountains, sometimes you're just carving, sometimes you're carving eagles, sometimes you're just tripping balls and blurt out strange terms, but sometimes, and not all the time mind you, you just need a blaring breakbeat to drive you down the mountain and into the chalet for some cold ones in order to warm up.
