Hey…. Hope you’re all well. Thanks for dropping by. These days, maybe like you, I can easily get upset about what is happening in the world… and like most of us, I have occasional moments of anger and despair, frustration and feeling at a loss. So I often seek solace in gardening and in nature. When I smile these days… it is not necessarily a happy smile. It is a knowing smile that I can share with the world.… So here’s a little banjo song with a smile. Mark

Out In The World

Humans are the only species who preserve a lasting relationship from parents to children and vice versa after the offspring has reached adolescence. This can be curse and blessing at the same time in some cases, but overall it is a gift in my view. We will stay the children of our parents for a lifetime obviously. Once you have realized this and don't consider it a threat anymore you are given the chance to close the circle in a peace- and beautiful way.

Hey everyone - Mr Spotty Book and I thought we'd quickly rattle off a chirpy little choon to try and capture the global mood of the moment.  You're welcome!

By rather clever use of an unedited, zero production, rough one-shot take, a woefully failing voice and the virtuoso  touch of a buzzing string, I think I've successfully managed to impart an air of total amateurishness to the piece.  A level of rustic backwoods front porch authenticity that them there pro's can only dream of.... :)

Watching dust play evening’s light
Skips the beams, or so it seems
I’m wondering if dust has dreams
When it settles out of sight.
Finest diamond has its flaws
Don’t need perfection just because

Misplaced trust, screaming lies
Pollen falls in howling squalls
A shattered world that just appals
Such a sorry sight that greets my eyes
As crypto fool’s gold they adore 
Flotsam morals wash these shores

Staring at my feet what do I see
Best support I got and the only ones for free

Made my peace to seek respite
Watching clouds for hours and hours
Prone within this bed of flowers

Life’s pearl had deeply fissured cracks
Optimism took two steps back

Athena breathed life to my clay
Clay don’t cost much but that’s okay

What is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child?
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a legally-binding international agreement setting out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of every child, regardless of their race, religion or abilities.
The hope, vision and commitment of world leaders in 1989 led to the Convention. It is up to today’s generation to demand that world leaders from government, business and communities end child rights violations now, once and for all. They must commit to action to make sure every child, has every right.

Ghost in the Forest

I found this on my hard drive. It dates from four or five years ago. At the time, I thought it wasn’t enough of this or enough of that to post, while thinking it was also too much of the same thing. But now I like it, especially from the guitar player’s point of view. The sounds and interlocking parts please me. Maybe you will like them too.

I remember that I made this in vague tribute to one of my favorite players and musical mentors-at-a-distance.  He shall remain only partially named.  

For some reason, the “head,” such as it is, comes at the end. Go figure…

++++. PROFILE NOTES ++++

Once a wannabe, not yet a has been.

It had been over a decade since I put together a song,
and for that matter basically walked away from music altogether.
Losing hope that I would ever have the time to put into music again,
I finally gave away my 3rd music studio.
I ran across SoundCloud around 2013,
and thought I might take what few songs I had recorded, 
and lay them to rest there.
And there they languished.

HOWEVER, around 2017 I went back to SoundCloud
and began listening a little more and a little more,
and actively taking a part in visiting the sites
of so many wonderful musicians and beautiful songs.
Also, more and more often I would discover that these artists
were blossoming everywhere around the world,
and most definitely worthy of high praise and compliments.

Then suddenly, these old dead soundtracks right here
began to have a bit of life breathed back into them.
From the kind words that began to come trickling in,
I thought, maybe, someday I might give this music thing a try again.

The thing that finally pushed me into action
was a particular SoundCloud artist…Sander Heerings,

Not only was he encouraging,
but he began faithfully responding to a few questions,
then a barrage of them.

The final result seemed to be that after a couple of months,
the Old Grinder now has a 4th studio and, finally, a new song.
I hope there may be many more to come.

Thank you Sander, and to the multitude that have dropped in
to listen to these old songs, 
and most of all, for perking up my spirits.
