Soul Groove returns to Feedasoul Records with a cracking three-tracker. Jazz at Muniaka Club brings forward Soul Groove’s signature soulful sound that we’ve grown to love. Heavily rooted in Jazz, the EP title track highlights his downtempo rhythm alongside a groove-laden bassline, and heartfelt woodwinds, balanced by atmospheric pads and synths. Part 2 provides more bounce with his club rework of the track. Straight drums, movement-inducing percussion and building sax samples outline the artist’s symmetry between Jazz and House Music.

On his previous releases, including last year's fine 'Cafe Society' EP on Ukrainian imprint Arteform, @thierrytomas has showcased a sound that cannily combines elements of both deep house and tech-house. On 'Tomat', his first full EP for Moscow-based Minor Notes Recordings, Thomas ditches the tech-house influences in favour of a delicious deep, dusty and warming take on deep house. It's a good move, because opener 'August' is simply sublime, with sampled jazz horns, twinkling piano motifs and luscious chords rising above a shuffling jazz-house rhythm and a lovely bassline. The Russian producer then switches to bumpin', loop-based disco-house thrills ('Signor Promidor') and loose-limbed, funk-sampling, shoulder-swinging brilliance ('Shaking'), before rounding things off via the spy chase-friendly jazz-house bump of 'Double Bass'.

The series starts off with members of the label family - Vienna’s Sam Irl and the man behind Jazz & Milk, Dusty. The two not only share a good friendship, but also the love for raw and sample-based house music tunes produced on the MPC. “Pick Up The Pieces” is driven by a rough bass drum, filthy dub vocal samples, harmonic synth chords and a bassline that makes you bounce. On the flipside, “Drift” has a rather moody vibe but nonetheless dancefloor potential. The track is a beautiful collage piece consisting of plenty sample fragments which doesn’t fail to pull you in its spell like a drift through otherworldly spheres... So let’s pay tribute to good music and Tom Moulton’s legacy - the 12” single!
