Hot Breaks Summer Baby (Wonderful DJs Episode 47 Mix)

A label that has pathed careers for the likes of Nightwave, Hodge, Special Request/Paul Woolford and many more, DEXT Recordings announce 'Blizzard'; a fresh 12" from the enigmatic Russian techno-head, Dawn Razor.

Following releases on A R T S, Scuffed and Holding Hands to name but a few, he is best known for both his live performances and DJ sets of broken beat techno, electro, mutated bass, post-trance and everything in between.

Title track 'Blizzard' launches the listener into oblivion with murky, travelling sub-low that whirls around a breakbeat and razor-sharp snares that attack like mosquitos.

'Vacant Crew' follows with an intense and rolling pulse of claustrophobic builds that clasp you in an electrifying position.

On remix duties enters Desert Sound Colony (Holding Hands/Dr Banana), portraying his own inimitable two-step spin on 'Blizzard'. Utilising the pads to create a unique air that sits around a playful and warm bassline, the choice of remixer truly sits perfectly with the overall palate of the record.

'Synchro' is a syncopated stepper with broken-beat Techno qualities and a shocking drop that draws you in and pushes you back out.

Closing out the EP is 'Dub Lead'; a digi-bonus track with garage-tinged breaks and mammoth bass modulations, sitting among atmospheric pads that float you further out to space.

Where do we even start? With regular slots on @rinsefm, recent appearances on @hoerberlin, BBC Introducing, @balamii, and @djmag, as well as shows at Fabric, Tola Peckham, Kindred, Patterns, Corsica Studios, FOLD, The Cause, Latitude Festival, AND multiple releases under his belt, this list is getting so long even Santa can’t compete.

As we celebrate our birthday this month, we keep APECAST within the close family. This week we welcome label artist Dufraine. Head over to Instagram to hear what Andy has to say on life since releasing with us, experiences of Ape-X, and musical influences. Check it via our Instagram! 

Adopting Newcastle as his hometown, Dufraine made quite the impact on clubs across the North-East as a promoter, producer and DJ whilst studying in the city. Co-founding QUEST 808 with friends Shawn Cartier and Patrick Smith. The small community night hosted some prime artists such as Radioactive Man, Solid Blake, Alienta and Gene On Earth.  

We were instantly hooked by his varied approach to creating dynamic electro music. So we invited Dufraine to join our label in early 2021. Debuting with ‘Index’ EP. The release burnt through club-speakers, with 4 expertly crafted electro heaters and a stellar remix from old friend 1-800 Girls. Since then Dufraine has released music on Jensen Interceptors International Chrome and turbo-charged Londons label Childsplay. 

The young producer is one to watch over 2022. That’s enough talking from us, now get stuck into this mix.
