In 2024, Reel People Music has released numerous soulful gems. Still, none shine brighter than our next captivating recording, "Loving At First Sight", between Dutch production duo Fouk and renowned US R&B star Debórah Bond.

Fouk aka Daniel Leseman and Junktion (Hans Peeman) have been friends since childhood, and their individual successes as producers made their collaboration inevitable. While the outcome of such a partnership is never guaranteed, their unique house sound, infused with disco and funk, has proven to be irresistibly infectious.

Debórah Bond (pronounced De-BOR-rah) describes herself as a "people watcher, dreamer, and lover of philosophy." She credits Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, and Sade as key influences in shaping her sound. Her unique and "eclectic mix of R&B, funk, and British soul" has garnered praise from critics, artists, and fans worldwide. Her debut album "DayAfter" and its follow-up "AfterDay" solidified Debórah Bond's reputation as an intensely sensitive, spiritual, and genuine artist, as well as a funky diva with captivating stage presence.

Fouk are a Dutch deep house duo with records on Heist, Shall Not Fade, Razor'N'Tape and many more. Their own label, Outplay, is one of the real secret gems in the scene, with a small but tight discography, every release being distinct from the others and absolutely essential. 

In addition to this issue's cover feature, @justsayfouk also put together this mix for our Sanctify deep house series.

Dam Swindle’s Heist Recordings delivers the eleventh iteration of its tastemaking ‘Round Up’ series, an annual compilation where artists of the past year randomly remix another. Following 2024’s tenth edition in the long-running series, which saw heavy rotation across the BBC and NTS airwaves, the latest installment continues its legacy with another self-reflective medley of reinterpretations from the Heist family, including DJ Sneak, Makèz, Crackazat, Fouk, Elisa Elisa, Kaap, and of course, Dam Swindle.

Today, we present a series of club-oriented re-imaginings from the Book of Thump. We are not trying to re-write the tales or stories, but rather provide a new context for the same teachings and mythical proverbs. Fouk, Cody Currie, Friend Within embark on an interstellar voyage to assist in this quest for new knowledge and insight. Voyagers like Sam von Horn, Danny Goliger, Henry Was, Benny Bridges and Justin Jay also bring forth their own interpretations of the eternal tales encapsulated​ in the Book of Thump. If we are ever unsure of what the stories mean, we can always look to the Book itself for guidance: as chapter 2 of the Book exclaims, "Dance Like It's Your Life!" Enjoy.

For Daniel Leseman & Junktion (Hans Peeman), successful producers on their own merits and friends since childhood, a collaboration was inevitable. Their house sound infused with disco and a lot of funk has been proven to be very infectious.

After the infamous Detroit Swindle signed them to their Heist imprint and released the booming Kill Frenzy EP their name was established firmly to a broad and quickly growing audience. The result was requests for DJ sets across Europe, the America’s & Australia with personal highlights including Glastonbury, LoveBox, Concrete Paris, Output New York, Club Space Miami, Claire and De Marktkantine in Amsterdam.

Their first vinyl release as Fouk, on their own Outplay Records was met with great enthusiasm, the brilliant reactions to ‘Stuff Your Dad Liked’ and ‘Cat Lady’ propelled Fouk and Outplay firmly into the scene as the ‘one to watch’. Since then they’ve released EP’s on Room With A View, The House of Disco and Razor-n-Tape and made a string of strong remixes for the likes of Kraak & Smaak, Smoove & Turrell, Groove Armada, The Brand New Heavies, Luke Million, Joey Negro and Mayer Hawthorne.

After releasing ‘Release The Kraken EP’ featuring Thumpasaurus on The House of Disco, ‘Truffles EP’ on Heist Recordings in 2019 and two EP’s on their own Outplay offshoot ’24 Carrot’ they return again on Heist in 2021 with ‘Blue Steel EP’. Continuing to build on the sound they have evolved throughout the years with a new impulse of creativity.
