I sometimes wish I actually knew @ less, ha! Once ones’ eyes and ears are opened.. it’s impossible to continue to be @ complacent! This song began back at the beginning of the summer, when Josh was messing around on his electric piano and found a structure to which to add his bass. As soon as he opened the project to the rest of Eclectic Collective, JJ jumped right in, adding his thrilling organ and ethereal background synth. Thus, Josh dropped his original e. piano part in favor of JJ's new parts. Ken was next up, adding the drums in reverse order from how he and Josh usually do it. Ken is very skilled at being able to add drums to a pre-existing bass line, which he displays in here. He also added the clever auxilary percussion you hear throughout. Mark was next to the trough, adding his funky clavinet, as well as his sax solo you hear lighting it up in there. He also added some well composed horns toward the end, not to be confused with JJ's synth. 
  Then it was time for the guitarists to do their thing. Stephen added the strong, melodic solos in the first two breaks with his guitar and wah pedal. After Tez added his thrilling solos at the end, Stephen went back in and added the funky rhythm guitar part. Tez also added the funky guitar riffs throughout the verses.
  All that was left was to get Carl in on the action, as he is the newest core member of Eclectic Collective. He wrote a poem and sung it in his signature, wild style for us.
  This is Eclectic Collective at its almost full strength, pulling six musicians from two different continents and four different countries together to create a song. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
   On a side note, this will be Eclectic Collective's last song for two weeks. As most of you know, we release a song every Thursday at midnight. Due to vacation and travel at the end of summer, we'll be skipping  next Friday, the 15th, but should be returning the following Friday, the 22nd. We may also put something out this coming Tuesday, the 12th, so please stay tuned. Can't thank enough those of you who tune in regularly and support us every week.

True story: I socialized with a guy in the late 90s who had been in a mid tier rock band (redacted) in the late 70s/early 80s. After the fame, there wasn't any money, and he had a regular everyman job like me. He had great stories, though...

Nothing like a pesky raccoon to stir things up a bit… Oh, hello. Glad you dropped by. A raccoon, I named Bandit, has taken up a vacation residence under the shed here. It’s right next to the raspberry patch and apple trees. A couple nights ago, Bandit snuck into my small greenhouse, where I grow tomatoes and peppers, and made a salad of the pepper plants, munching one plant completely down to the stalk. Bandit also likes the heavy crop of choke cherries here. He also uses the back corner of the vegetable garden as a latrine, which last summer was up on the house roof. I’d awaken with a start to hear little footsteps running across the roof. Luckily no roof excursions this year. Anyway, this is a Blues song with some solo banjo. Lyrically, it has a couple of reflections about life, mortality, gardening, relationships and partner expectations, letting go of life dreams, a nod to Bandit, the wacky weather, and making peace with old age. And of course, there’s a fair amount of daydreaming going on, while plucking banjo. Hope all is going reasonably well with you, wherever you are on Earth, during this whirlwind tour we’re on. Mark

This Empty World 

It is hard to escape the unrest in the world at the moment, horrific picture of  starving children, millions dying in wars, Psychopaths running countries and threatening nuclear war if they don’t get what they want. Very frightening times. 

All of this is having a profound effect on me and I am sure on a lot of normal people and I wonder, do these So called leaders have any idea of the effect all of these bombs going off and exhaust from tanks and jets is having on our Atmosphere ? what would happen to humanity if they actually did press that Nuclear button?  Armageddon would be released followed by disease and mother earth would fight back. 

With this as a mental backdrop, I had an idea for a song about the last human being left alive on Earth after such an event. There would have to be a “ Last man standing “  A bitter sweet experience to have survived nuclear wars, pandemic after pandemic and the death of life on the planet but to be All alone in this empty world. I had the music but not the lyrics. I sent off what I had to my Friend and musical collaborator Finn Eces and what you are about to hear is the amazing result.
