"When you go to your stereo and turn on the tunes and all is working well with the speaker wire, then the sound is sweet, crisp and clear. You hear what the artist and producer intended for you to hear — and it’s a good and pleasant thing. 

However, if your speaker wire has a short in it, if it’s frazzled by a fray, then things might not go so well, and a clear connection could be lost. 

There are moments when that frayed wire may be in the perfectly placed position to still allow really solid sound to pass through. In that moment, the music is coming through loud and clear and you get to enjoy the groove. 

But then something shifts — even just a little, and suddenly that worn wire produces static (and maybe even sparks). The music’s still there, but with it is another competing noise — a sharp and crepitating noise — a noise that’s taken something pleasant and made it painful. 

All of a sudden something shifts again, and everything has gone from simple static to overwhelming and excruciating white noise. In the chaotic cacophony you find yourself reaching for the volume control in order to mute the mess because it hurts. 

Then things shift once more and the frayed wire is now in a position where nothing’s getting through. The connection has been lost and all is silent. The stereo itself is still making a melody, but that melody is trapped inside the machine and unknown to anyone on the outside."

Lexeme opens the EP with intense and forceful percussive elements that build gradually but subtly along side droning synth hooks. Deep Breathe delivers more on groove yet keep the hypnotic and driving elements Roll Dann is known for. Secret wastes no time is delving head first into pounding, relentless rhythmics structures but gradually opens into the more melodic of the EP’s tracks. The Fist closes the EP with yet more haunting and caustic rhythms, Roll Dann uses the builds and drops to superb degree to yet again drive home is unique brand of Techno. soma

Following last year’s ‘Vitriol’ EP and ‘Otider’ album, SSTROM is back on Rösten with ‘Drenched’, 12 tracks for the floor, divided on 3 EPs, each to be released three weeks apart.

SSTROM is the project of Hannes Stenström, once part of Swedish band Slagsmålsklubben, and one half of enigmatic techno duo SHXCXCHCXSH (SHX). SSTROM’s output is explicitly immersive, relying on tense immediacy and spontaneity. The subtle 4x4 pulsations frame vivid narratives, rich layers of texture with lush harmonies surfacing from the warm and alien flow. 

On his ‘Otider’ LP SSTROM manifested a sonic diversity relating to his personal experiences and incorporated a diversity of genres and elements ranging from ‘90s rave to hints of minimal synth or outsider house melodic sensibility, yet everything carefully merged into a coherent whole.

On ‘Drenched’ SSTROM concretizes his ideas even further. The EP’s came to life after he broke his computer by spilling a drink on it. It forced him to try out different techniques of composing and recording. With limited ways of working, a more minimalistic form of expression emerged, based on very short but mind-bending harmonic structures and layered pulsations. The process proved to be very creative and resulted in these twelve tracks whose magic will work best on EP format and for the floor, nothing else.
