Berlin-based DJ duo and couple Brax Moody (Munich) and Vamparela (Thessaloniki) have been playing music together since 2007, either as a DJ duo, in bands, or as remixers and producers.

Merging the rhythm and dynamism of Munich’s hip-hop clubs with the grime and attitude of Thessaloniki’s back-alley indie bars gives an idea of how to categorize @LocalSuicide: a straight-up soulful fusion of new wave, deep-house, disco-house, acid and techno.

My Favorite Robot welcome the collaborative outfit of Rodion & Local Suicide for their next EP, which comes boosted by remixes from Los Mekanikos, Moscoman and Fairmont, as well as artwork that is made up 3D prints of the act.
Rodion is an Italian classical piano player and acclaimed producer whose albums and EPs for the likes of Gomma, Nein & Nang have helped to reshape modern disco. Also one half of Alien Alien and boss of the Roccodisco
label, he is a real studio visionary who for ten years has mixed up classical, trance and psychedelic sounds. He makes everything from chamber music to computer game soundtracks, has remixed Giorgio
Moroder and counts the likes of Tim Sweeney, Erol Alkan and DJ Hell as fans. Berlin-based duo/couple Brax Moody and Vamparela aka Local Suicide have been collaborating together since 2007, either as a DJ duo, in
bands, or as remixers and producers. They have played all over the world and are in favour with the likes
of XLR8R, Thump and Mixmag for their fusions of slow techno, post disco and acid.
These original analog tracks were recorded between 2014 and 2016 in Rodion’s vintage studio in Berlin.
They came about when they all met following one of his gigs just after he moved there, and after being in
touch online for a while. During one of the nights, Rodion brought friend, producer and singer Ali Bey (part
of the Belgrade DJ collective Beyond House and a famous record digger) to contribute.
Impressive opener ‘Abu Dhabi’ includes samples from field recordings from all over the world. The most
prominent is the recording from an airport in Bangkok—where Brax Moody and Vamparela were waiting to
catch their plane to Saigon—and it ended up being the main vocal hook. The alluring track is a wonky feeling
number with gurgling synth lines and gentle releases of white noise lulling you into the groove. A searching
synth line and distant siren add urgency and the whole thing feels urban and futuristic.
Comprised of Mexico City producers Max Jones and Eddie Mercury, Los Mekanikos combine raw hypnorhythm
tracks with pumping grooves that pay homage to Chicago, Detroit and Berlin. Their special remix is
another late night and unhinged number that encourages you to freak out amongst the panning and paranoid
synth patterns and robotic grooves.
Then comes the brilliant ‘True Love Floats’ with Ali Beys singing and Vamparela’s vocoded vocals. The interplay
between the two is tense and alien and makes for a perfectly inhuman groove with popping bell
sounds, undulating pads and spooky deep space ambiance.
Remixing this one is Berlin via Tel Aviv artist of the moment and Disco Halal label head Moscoman, whose
raw machine grooves have impressed on labels like ESP Institute, Correspondant and I‘m a Cliche. His slow
and purposeful version is deep and psychedelic with disorientating vocals and blistered synths wallowing in
a menacing urban landscape. Buy it digitally and you will also get a fine remix from label regular and Canadian
Fairmont. He is a partner in the fine Beachcoma label, has worked with cult outlet Border Community
over the years and mixes up dark disco and goth into his own fresh sounds. His remix here is more direct
and driven, with powerful drums and well sculpted synths making it another great rework.
This is a unique sounding package featuring plenty of heavyweight names and marks another cultured outing
from the always considered My Favorite Robot label.

@DemiRiquisimo is returning to his in-house imprint, Semi Delicious, with his second EP and ready to pick up where he left off with the aptly titled ‘Mysterious EP’, dropping today (3rd May 2019). The only vinyl release imprint saw his first EP lock in huge support from names like Optimo, Rex The Dog, Horse Meat Disco, Theo Kottis, Skream, Loods, Auntie Flo, Simian Mobile Disco and Tensnake, and even a coveted premiere on BBC Radio 1 by Pete Tong himself, while this one did not fail to get the attention of the infamous BBC1 “Danny Howard” claiming that he knew little about Demi but quite literally he would have played all the four tracks after receiving this EP in his inbox.

Opening with Pa De Chevaux, the chugging Bootsy Collins-style topline bass works in harmony with the vocal sample to create something so deliciously funky that you’ll still be moving long after the track ends. Fans of A Lifetime On The Hips are in for a treat on A2 as Certified revives the former’s stomping 4/4 kick and delivers one of the naughtiest modulated acid-arp basslines to ever grace the dancefloor. Enter lush chords, dreamy vocal sampling and wonderfully pacey hi-hats, and you’ve got one of the EP’s strongest tracks.

On the B-side, the quality doesn’t let up and you’re reminded that each track could easily be the lead. The title track, Mysterious, is a clear follow-up to Sarong Song with the perfect combination of acid basslines, 808 kicks and an array of live strings, organs, and horns mixed in to pack plenty of punch. Tagine Machine leads with an afro-centric percussive intro before delving into the depths of tough, synth-laden electro-disco. Inspired by a trip to Morocco and the sights and sounds that the souks of Marrakesh are filled with, Tagine Machine reflects the breadth of Demi’s musical inspiration. Bringing together elements of acid, disco, house and everything in-between, Demi Riquísimo once again demonstrates why he’s quickly becoming one of the most exciting talents on the scene.

MOTEL77 is the new duo revealed by the infamous French label La Dame Noir. Behind that name, Thoma Cher & Charp, 2 Djs who have been key players in Shanghai underground scene for the last decade. While Charp did tour all over asian clubs, Thoma Cher released vinyls on nu disco cool labels and his first EP was charted in the best of 2017 of juno records. They came together last year to create MOTEL77, a dark disco act "for those who like to keep their leather jacket on the dance floor" (Trax Magazine 2018). Dark, deep, physical but focus on groove. "A standout package of machine made disco with a space edge”.

Their first EP on La dame Noir Records has received widespread acclaim from Media (BBC 6 music, Dj mag UK, The Ransom note, Trax magazine…) and has been played around the world by artist like Curses, Local suicide, Chloe, Zimmer or Marvin & Guy. “Beast of a release” , “dance floor heat”, their second EP Confusion with remix by In Flagranti and Roe Deers confirmed the growing imprint of the duo in the European electronic music scene. Those last months, they went back on duty to produce an heavy remix for the latest Play Pal EP and an original track “Morning Call” for the 10 years anniversary of Ldn records (supported by DFA Juan Maclean!). In the last year, Motel77 has performed both in Europe and Asia bringing their dark groove, techno-ish disco, and saturated guitar in Paris, Marseille, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Ho Chi Minh.

Our introductory pick for 2020 is a compilation from the French studio addict “@Yuksek” who has redefined the realms of disco and synth-pop with his productions and through his imprint “Party fine”. His love for NewYork scene and French electronic music led him to collaborate with an array of iconic artists such as Moby, JD Samson, Gorillaz to name a few. 

This 5th chapter of an exclusive compilation containing unreleased tracks from new members such as Dimitri from Paris, Jean Tonique, Dombrance offers a smooth blend of Party fine’s aesthetic and euphoria. 

Our personal pick from this compilation is “The Other Day” by Getaroom! (@getaroomofficial) who joins forces with “Chloe" from C.A.R (@c_a_r), whose eclectic vocals transcends the realms of disco. This track is a statement that “Disco” is a subjective genre and it has always been difficult to see the boundaries of the movement and all the influences it has ever had or will have on the electronic scene.

The second release of the French label Crowhunt Records brings the second appearance of Fabio Me Llaman Soltero on our platform. Save his name, peeps: The Guatemalan DJ & producer has been shaking the world for the last months with his bold and sophisticated works. His new EP – "Secreto Infiel", which lies somewhere between dark/new wave and electronic disco – brings two originals plus two remixes by Mexican duo FLXXX and label boss MontCosmik. 

The remix we decided to premiere, made by MontCosmik, seems to deliver an alien message from outer space. Obscure but groovy, his interpretation of "FMLLS" puts together menacing synth & arpeggio layers with a throbbing bassline, giving life to a powerful tune devoted to bringing some ecstasy to the dance floor.

The next 12 incher on Wrong Era is made by Marching Machines, a duo made of two Belgian powerhouses: Dimitri Andreas and Spacid. Their love for electronic machine manipulation and their musical history that spans over 2 decades, built an excellent foundation for this brand new project. “Lonesome” is a slow burning dark electro track with howling and gloomy synths that flow into acidic tendencies. “Desolat” continues on the emotional path of the previous track, embracing solitude on a broken rhythm, ending up in arpeggiating classic and cosmic italo track. In succession of that, there’s “Driven” which moves up to dancefloor dynamics by using harder and raw sounds, combined with an analogue pulsewave sound generator and building into a release of energy with wavy synths and smashing snares. The final track is a remix of “Lonesome” by one of Wrong Era’s label bosses Fabrizio Mamarella. While the original idea is still intact, the remix is a definite bigger and faster version, implying a stark contrast that still remains powerful, perfectly made for the dancefloor.

You run, your heart beats fast. You are breathing heavy, but steady. The surge of adrenaline makes you feel like you could do this forever. Awake, alert, excited or maybe a little scared of what’s going to happen. You can feel the sweat on your back and goosebumps on your forearms. It’s finally happening and it’s happening under your terms. You got it. “Dominator” by Kalipo & Local Suicide is an electro anthem full of physicality and furor, of determinedness and power. Vamparela’s vocals are like the voice inside your gut that you should listen to a little more often, while the driven bassline and 80s inspired analog synths will occupy your mind and focus your thoughts. “Crocodile”, the second track of the release, is the other side of the coin – not any less definite, however more haunted and introspected in contrast. It isn’t always easy, but let’s take control and dance it out before life eats us up!

The double single “Dominator / Crocodile” will be released on 5th February via Hold Your Ground, incl. remixes by Theus Mago a.k.a. Bufi from Mexico City and Radial Gaze from Saint Petersburg. They sat quietly across from each other, eyes down trying to avoid one another's gaze. You could cut the tension with a knife, things had been said that couldn't be unsaid. They were no longer joined by the same bond as before, now they were more like strangers, unsure of whether to stay or go. But that was just how life played out, and whatever life throws at you, you just have to shake yourself off and keep on rollin... 

Following releases on Hard Fist, Pets Recordings, his own Silencio imprint and Ransom Note Records, the mighty Bawrut brings his off kilter productions to Life and Death for the first time. Known for his weird and wonderful approach to electronic music, his Turbo EP for DJ Tennis' label is no different, with menacing basslines, boiyant synths and hypnotic drum work throughout.

Kalipo is one of the most busiest and creative forces in Berlin’s electronic music scene. With over 30 million streams and global radio airplay, his solo project blends electronic intensity with emotional depth somewhere between club culture and indie aesthetics. Straight, driving beats rooted in Krautrock meet striking melodies inspired by Electroclash, House, and Techno from the 2000s and 2010s.
