This month's guest is exkursion; An active member of Zürich’s nightlife, namely as part of the curation and events team at Zentralwaeschwerei, a community-owned cultural space. With his selections ranging from New Beat to EBM & Trance, exkursion's sets incorporate sounds of rumbling, forward-driving basslines with subtle hints of industrialism, darkened voices and big, accentuated snares.

Disco for the Damned w/ exkursion

Since the mid 2000’s he has released music on labels such as Anna Logue Records, Go Finger, Cold Beats Records, and Noise To Meet You, as well as influential netlabels like Elpa Music and Monotonik. His style is best described as a mixture of instrumental Synth Pop, Electro, and IDM. Inspirations include classic 1980’s Synth Pop, 1990’s British Techno, IDM, Electro and loads more. The music is made on analogue and digital hardware synths, drum machines and effects boxes controlled by simple midi sequencers. Delayscape also plays in industrial/synth band Heinz Beauvaix.

This episode I had on (if you ask me) one of the best of the best newcoming artists of 2022 at the container: The Spy. This year his album Time To Strike landed on Elena Colombi's infamous Osàre! Editions imprint and it's really something special. One of my absolute favs of this year consisting of crunchy, wavey electro rhythms accompanied by synths that touch the soul. Apart from that, his releases span across labels like Brokntoys, Discos Atónicos and Everyone On Acid, which are all very much worth giving a good listen.

More than honoured to have had my big red Cruel Machine companion over on the show for a b2b session.

For the 38th. entry in the Fun Fun Mix series, we present Fermin, musician, producer and dj from Argentina, recognized for his unprejudiced vision of pop music and his facility for fusing different genres into a unique style. As a dj, Fermin uses vinyl records as a search engine to explore house, techno, trance and electro sounds from the 90's and the 2000s. In 2020 he began his solo career with the EP "Domiciliaria" and two singles "Ruta 2” and “Light and Power”. In 2021, in addition to publishing his long-awaited first studio album, "Orden Y Progreso", he earned recognition from the music industry for his work with Argentinean musician Dillom.

Fun Fun Mix 38 - Fermin

Every once in a while a small label you have no previous experience with comes along and blows you away with a release. More of a rarity however is when said independent imprint continues to blow you away on a regular basis with their following releases.  For me, Varoslav’s excellent Rue De Plaisance imprint is such an example.

Since it was it was incepted in 2011 with the release of  David K’s off kilter jazz infused ‘Somewhere In My Head’ it was clear the Czech born Parisian’s label was one that arrived to stay. A steady stream of left of centre grooves have followed with release "everything from experimental house to funked-up techno," finding its way onto vinyl since the labels inauguration. With a variety of genres on display one constant runs throughout each and every release pressed in the French capital: quality.

Thus when we had the chance to secure an exclusive vinyl only mix from label boss Varoslav himself naturally we jumped at the chance. With a busy summer ahead that sees the label touch down in Barcelona for a special exhibition during Sonar and a new summer residency at Paris institution Rex Club about to begin the future is looking brighter than ever for Varoslav and his rapidly emerging imprint. "Historically, ostraca refers to fragments broken off from a piece of pottery and used as a writing or illustrative surface. The music in this mix represents a cross section of a larger whole; a small piece of shell fitting into some ethereal, conscious body. Since the middle of 2014 me and my friend Fanta Clauss are running this nice little monthly wednesday party called 'Something Else' at a cosy bar/club called Cräck Bellmer. What started as a test-run for a vinyl-only-night without the typical berlin-standard four-to-the-floor-music, developed to a playground for inviting friends to play B-Sides, outernational music and obsure rarities. Even though this mix can't reflect the whole spectrum of music we're presenting at 'Something Else' it's a nice example for those special wednesdays, which already began to develop some serious impact on my record collection. I hope you will you have some fun listening to this musical journey through counties like Ethopia, Chile, Brazil and Eastern Germany.

Kaltès is a musician and dj.
She has a background in jazz and studied improvisation in Brussels, before giving in to Berlin’s darkest shade of techno. 
For 10 years a Tresor Club resident, she released music on prominent labels such as Eotrax and MORD.
She then founded her own label, Aetna Records.
She is also half of the duo Sabaka.
