Original recent composition by Kate Rose, dedicated to David Farrell of Hillsboro, NM after he and his wonderful wife Barbara allowed me to stay in their art and inspiration-filled adobe palace. They also organized my Wild Irish Fiddle show at Hillsboro Community Center on September 3, 2023.

I composed this after an afternoon with some early music enthusiasts (Paul and Armand). Immersed in that world, I was inspired to reach into the essence of Irish tunes in the simplest form. This very easily came to me in my improvisation, almost like it was channeled from another place and time. Magical! 
I follow it with tunes from the Irish repertoire that I learned in my early teens in New Hampshire, the first which seems to me among the oldest examples of Irish tunes, "The Maid in the Cherry Tree." Finally, I play "Princess Royal," reputed to be an O'Carolan tune.

Fiddling in Irish sessions and contradances was a big part of my growing up in New Hampshire. I then lived in County Clare, Ireland for years and learned from the old players, also traveling around Ireland gathering tunes, in the 1990s. I play in bands in Flagstaff and also solo shows which involve improvisation and fusion. In addition to fiddle, I play mandolin, Irish whistle, and I sing.
