Alt-folk songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist, Chris Cleverley releases 2nd single from critically acclaimed album ‘We Sat Back and Watched it Unfold’. 
‘The Arrows and the Armour’ is, in Cleverley’s words an anti-love song:
“As artists we have to consider what place the love song can still hold within the 21st Century emotional landscape. And so this song look at love through the filter of the modern anxious mind; frantic and riddled with uncertainty, but still beautiful in its own way. And that’s the point. There’s so many shades. I’m attempting to shine an honest, revealing light on that full spectrum through the prism of this song.”
Produced by BBC Folk Award winner Sam Kelly, the track’s soaring pop melodies sit atop driving alt-rock rhythms, while maintaining a pure singer songwriter aesthetic. Contributions from UK Folk Scene luminaries such as Hannah Martin (Edgelarks) and Lukas Drinkwater nonetheless ground the track firmly within the indie folk genre. 
With an energetic, uplifting vibe it is the perfect track for a morning commute or exhilarating work out; happy, optimistic, romantic, Springtime sounds for fans of Bruce Springsteen, Sufjan Stevens, Ben Howard, Paul Simon and Elliott Smith.

This was written as a poem/ lullaby/ prayer for our daughter Rosalie when she was a few months old and would fight sleep each night. It was a musing on how we can keep the wild places with us wherever we are, even when tucked up in our warm, cosy beds. How there's a whole world to keep on exploring, in reality and through dreams and imagination.

Wild Goose

Inspired lyrically by the beautiful train journey between Exeter and Newton Abbot, this song is about a lady whose love has left her. She sets on a journey across land and sea to look for him, but to no avail.

Carry On You Fishermen

Written whilst impatiently awaiting the arrival of our first child, Rosalie, this song is a reflection on the mystical and mind-boggling growth of an infant in the womb. The belief that we are all intentionally created, and our lives known and held by something / someone greater than us

William says to Mary "We’re strangers in our land"
Mary says to William "Will i understand"
"What about the children?" "We’ll give them what they need.
Give them truth, clothes and shoes and something good to eat"
 
Through the fens in darkness, from Boston they set sail
Two miles out at Scotia Creek the expedition failed
The English captain robbed them and turned the ship around
And working for the king’s own coin the catchpole took them down
 
Mary took the children, Patience, Love and Fear
She bore them to God’s calling, God didn’t call them here
She’d take them to the New World, a new life waited there
With passage on the Mayflower William turned to prayer
 
Oh say can’t you see by dawn’s holy light dreams of America
Innocent pilgrims drawn from the night to dreams of America
 
Of those who sailed from Devon’s shore barely half survived
From disease and deprivation and broken hearts they died
Leaving just four women to fifty youths and men
But William slept with no regret said he’d do it all again
 
Seven years of hardship and Mary had passed on
Patience was a weak child she’d follow before long
Love & Fear bore children, and William held them dear
His legacy that man be free lived on in Love and Fear.
 
They sailed by the moon the first giant leap dreams of America
On star spangled oceans to faith’s righteous sleep dreams of America
