Suffocating cities at an increasing pace. "Certain circles" explores the path from serenity to discontentment, the modern sonic landscape as a linear narration of interpersonal relationships.Echoes of a city, texts, and computer generated sounds turn into mechanical sound gestures, struggling to fit into given spacetime. Inspired by Delia Derbyshire's "Inventions for Radio", this 8 channel piece seeks a conversation with the contemporary perspective of time and information.

‘Hybridised_Naturally’ is a futuristic audio-visual projection of if two opposing worlds collided. Travelling through vertical spaces within the Earth, the natural blends with the industrial. The sonic material is generated by machine learning algorithms, utilising PRiSM’s SampleRNN, WORD2WAVE, Holly Herndon’s Holly+, and a dataset made up of the raw sounds of machinery, city soundscapes, nature soundscapes and animals that are also heard in the piece. The visuals are a blend of different videos using Pollinations’ VQGAN+Clip network with various nature- and industry-based text prompts in the style of Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, L.S. Lowry, and Ernst Haeckel.

After creating a twenty-minute dataset, I trained the SampleRNN network on different lengths and variations of this audio file which generated mainly noise but each with their own hidden gestures and unique qualities. I adopted and preserved these unique sonic behaviours inherent to the generated samples and used them to shape and mould the gestures and texture motions heard throughout the piece. These inherent behaviours then supported the overall structure of the piece, allowing it to naturally form as one gradually moving texture injected with percussive and abrupt gestures.
In addition to the noise samples generated by SampleRNN, I utilised Ilaria Manco’s text-to-audio WORD2WAVE network which produced percussive and bass-heavy samples. These samples formed most of the low frequency content of the piece, supporting the composed imagined space below the ground. As a contrast to this, I utilised Holly Herndon’s Holly+ samples generated from harmonic synth pads to create a tonal, humanistic element to situate the piece within a futuristic society filled with energy. 
The visuals were generated using a VQGAN+Clip network via Pollinations.ai in the style of different artists and then blended to follow the movement and gestures of the audio.

Hybridised_Naturally [Audio] (2022)

Weightless is an ambisonic composition inspired by the choreographic principles of Rudolf von Laban's effort theory. Recorded and manipulated sound is spatialized and given movement accoding to Laban's weightless movement characteristics. The piece was composed during my stay in IEM Graz. Vocals by Julia Janiak and flute sounds by Freya Frischknecht.

Kamasi Washington - 'Re Run Home'

This work is dedicated to Annette Vande Gorne and Musique et Recherches.

A series of memories interrupt, overlap and flow into one another on a summer's day.

This piece is made exclusively from field-recordings taken in Brussels and Ohain in July 2011 and was begun at the studios of M&R and completed in the composer's own studio.

The creation of this piece was supported by the PRS Foundation and the Bliss Trust.

The Sun Warms The Memory (2011)

This piece is an exploration of the relationship between women in jazz and women in Persian music; two genres whose worlds may seem far removed but are in fact closely connected both musically and historically.
Throughout jazz history women have been excluded from the discourse and ensembles by men; it was believed they were not physically able to play jazz or play instruments such as the saxophone. In the west, these views have improved and are continuing to move away from these ideologies. However, in Iran, this oppression still exists today. It is by law that women in most areas of Iran are not allowed to sing or play music in public, with a few exceptions, such as a private concert to a small audience and only if there are also men in the band.
Musically, they are connected by improvisation, which is at the core of the two genres, and represents a freedom of expression; drawing parallels with the goals for women in music.
Most of the melodic material in this composition is based around the Persian melody mode Dastgāh Homāyoun.
