I was planning to make a techno-centric mix last weekend but that's not what happened. I went on a walk to listen to the new album 'New Blue Sun' by André 3000 and it completed changed my mindset and moved me to an opposite direction. So here's something that is ambient, downtempo, experimental, and with lots of texture. The title of this mix is a nod to the opening track on André 3000's album ("I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a 'Rap' Album but This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time"). Yes, the mix also opens with that track ✨

As summer approaches, for this mix, I wanted to channel the energy and moods of an outdoor rave... somewhere in a forest, a sandy beach/desert, the mountains, on a boat, or in your very own backyard 🌵 Cache 009 is an all-vinyl mix that takes you on a psychedelic, hypnotic, euphoric trip through space and time with flavors of acid, electro, house, techno, trance, breaks, and everything rave to keep you dancing 👣

✤ What was the inspiration behind this mix? 
This mix is an exploration of psybient and acidic textures prevalent in the proggy realm of dance music. Incorporating still fresh sounding tracks from as far back as 1993 to new releases as recent as this month, the mix is equally geared towards the dance floor and for headphone listening.

Cache 010: familymart guest mix

This mix is a live recording of my set from the Routine party at Substation Seattle on 5th July, 2024. I opened the night ahead of @yungsingh35ol and @thesilkroad with this 90 minute long multi-genre journey. Following the 4th of July celebrations in the US juxtaposed against the current state of the country and world, I tried to tell a story that spans themes of struggle, despair, fight, war, anger, hope, battle, and victory. 

The first "act" develops conflict and tension across themes such as capitalism "Act II Caveat Emptor" by good friend @lilbabylonia), religious & political tension ("Bombay Theme" by A.R. Rahman and "A Coin in Nine Hands" by Nicolas Jaar), war & genocide ("from the river to the sea" by @miellllllll, "Freedom for Everybody" by @jaymiesilk, "Evil" by Wladimir M). The mood changes around the 34-minute mark and we move into act two with “Freedom Music” (by @san-soda feat. Sean Haefeli & Mculo) and with @eris-drew delivering “The Message / Ride Free”. Feelings of loss & despair are replaced with sounds of hope and positivity over the next 25-odd minutes. @dj-pierre-official asks us to “Meet Hate With Love” and @supreems delivers an emotional tearjerker with “Us 2Gether”. The final act is a combination of celebration and high-energy release of emotions, but also a reminder at the same time that we have to keep fighting and persevering to keep what we cherish. We end with Dub FX telling us "Don’t give up, we're gonna make it in the end" 🕊️

During this unplanned single-take b2b, we go one-on-one-off to play tunes we love across several genres.. rap, bass, broken beats, hip-hop, acid, IDM.. it’s got it all!
This one is extra-special because it’s DJ MoM’s final exam after a month-long crash course in nocturnal mixology 🎛️🎚️🎛️ Did she pass with flying colors? — You tell me!

Cache 013: The JODI Debut

a hot summer night, a dripping basement, dancing away to sultry downtempo bangers. tell me when too much is enough.

Reviving the "Unfinished Business" series for this 1-hour mix that I had recorded last summer. It was originally meant to be a submission to NTS for their "Supporter Radio" series, with the theme this time being "heatwave". Kelly Lee Owen's version of Aaliyah's "More than a Woman" is a cornerstone tune in this mix, and it inspired the mood and flow. Shout out to my partner in rhyme "hot Jordan" aka DJ MoM (@jordan-bellman-441504977) for the inspiration.
