The 3rd full length release by the Cambridge, MA born Dane Keith Canisius flirts with multiple genres simultaneously -- Chill Wave, Shoegaze, Dreampop and Psychedelia and goes beyond these genre specifics.

Keith's earlier albums (Rumskib, Ferris Wheel Make out, Waves) have a strong Shoegaze and Dreampop approach with the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine aesthetics right upfront. On This Time It's Our High he moves closer to his own thing; making the album harder to define genre-wise as he blends so many elements together with elegance and without compromise. The result is a surreal, mood elevating sound combined with a fine pop sensibility that makes it easy to understand.

You could say that artists like Animal Collective, Ariel Pink, Deerhunter &amp; Panda Bear influenced some production elements on this album but at the same time it does not sound like those artists. It sounds like Keith Canisius.

D.L.H. Jones characterizes the year he was born as “awhile back.” He notes, however, that he is old enough to have purchased new vinyl in non-specialty record stores and young enough to own music made this century. He does know he was born in the back seat of rental car that, subsequently, could not be returned.

D.L.H. grew up in Azusa, California, where he spent a great deal of time in the vice-principal’s office. At age eleven, his life changed when, riding his bike, he found a ’62 Fender Mustang that had fallen (or was pushed) from a vehicle. Damage was minimal, though repair required replacement of the tuners, strap buttons, volume knob, one pickup, and the neck.

Jones first band, Rue Morgue Avenue, solely played Dylan covers, and featured: Marquam Handy (drums); Ron Sharp (bass); Herbie Schultz (Fender Rhodes); Geoffrey Spaulding (lead guitar); and Jeena Montalbo (vocals and accordion). To date, none of these fine artists have played another note in public.

When Jones refused to play acoustic material, he was fired by the band he created. After a solo journey to Joshua Tree National Monument, where Jones ate peyote and reportedly spoke with a coyote, he moved to Mendocino, California, where he worked as a professional salmon slimer, while honing his chops, playing in punk, thrash, shoegaze, and klezmer bands (the latter of which fired him for he refusing to play acoustic).

After being asked to leave industrial/rap band Septic Poisoning for playing too loudly, Jones made a pivotal decision to become a recording artist, who would not play in public. Recording at home, with a rotating array of unnamed, guest musicians, Jones began producing a seminal series of rare, underground recordings, released only on cassette: Sunset Twice Each Day; Haunted by the Ghost of Phillip Glass (composed while Glass was still alive); Neutrinos for the People; Caged Chalk Lines; Failed Liver Transplant; and Not Really Relevant Debate Elements (which Spazm magazine chose as the Most Accurate Record Title of the Year).

After a near-death experience involving a cat caught in a poplar tree, Jones renounced his past work, erasing the masters, and immediately placing his remaining cassette recording on the top of collectors’ most-wanted lists (for those, at least, who knew of them).

After a ten-year hiatus, during which Jones deliberately refurbished his studio with the oldest, lowest-fidelity equipment he could find at reasonable prices, Jones slowly began a slow return to recording, releasing anonymous singles via the Internet. Following a difficult conversation with his mother, Jones agreed to release work under his own name, but still refuses to make public appearances or will allow photographs to show his face. “I’m like Doctor Doom,” he says. “It’s more interesting when people don’t know.”
