Mote039 comes from New York-based Mike Parker, a producer known for his consistent stream of quality work, whose first release goes back to 1997 and who is the creator of his own language of music. 

With Spitting Electricity EP Parker showcases his unique sound of dizzying array of hypnotica warped in metallic swirls. Dubbed with a fitting title to characterize his high-voltage soundscape, the EP is also a nice comeback to Mote-Evolver after his remix for Marcel Fengler’s Thwack Remixes release.

This time Parker delivers 3 tracks that are not only powerful, but also designed to deepen and strengthen almost meditative nature of techno’s outer-end, endlessly evolving with fluidity. The title track is charged with electric sparks buzzing through a hard-edged 4/4 rhythm with unstoppable ebbs and flows of intensity. Following “Polar Vortex” adds even more pressure points and characters, especially with hollowed out deep chorus of voice layering unexpected touch of solemnness. 

On the B-side is “Ice Fissure”, the longest track of the EP that takes time to render its full force. It’s also the track that’s most core to Mike Parker’s trademark perpetuating spiral vortex, featuring ever expanding ripples across the surface of sound.

Token followers can rejoice that now, 2014, Surgeon finally makes his official debut on the label. 'Fixed Action Pattern' comes as prequel to 'Aphelion', a forthcoming compilation of new and exclusive material. Aphelion will differ from last year’s Token Introspective mix CD by providing a collection of bespoke productions from Token regulars and like-minded artist who were commissioned by label owner Kr!z to bring their individual and complimenting sound to the Belgian imprint’s all-consuming 48th release.

Anthony Child has appeared on Token once before in 2008 remixing Grovskopa’s Sex & Violins, and while regularly supporting the label’s music in his DJ sets, it’s been a long awaited six years for UK techno’s most trusted producer to resurface on an imprint he’s helped inspire and influence. Surgeon’s two-track Fixed Action Pattern certifies Token’s credentials as a titan power in the world of no frills, industrially hardened techno, and this 46th release since the label took shape in 2007 follows this year’s Vaudeville LP by Inigo Kennedy, Orphx and Ancient Method’s relentless debut as Eschaton, Ctrls’ fifth EP for Token, more quality output as usual from Ø [Phase], and Christian Wünsch & Oscar Mulero’s second release for Kr!z as Spherical Coordinates.

Combining distorted drums similar to his earlier works on Dynamic Tension with a rusted synth progression Inigo Kennedy enthusiasts will inherently gravitate toward, “Fixed Action Pattern” is a bona-fide, rhythmically broken, Surgeon classic. For a second option Child provides a spatial dub version Lee “Scratch” Perry would produce had industrial techno been his thing, sequencing a loosened variant of drums disjointed by the injured swing of its tempo, cloaked in the lonesome moans of a distant fog horn, subtle feedback loops and splashes of space echo.

Slam are back with another single on their Soma imprint, delivering 3 devastating tracks with the Cyclone EP. The dynamic Glasgow duo have been relentless with their material this year - despite their heavy touring schedule - which only seems to have increased their output and dedication to cultivating their well refined sound. 

Opening with Antonym, Slam keep the sound deep, dark and hypnotic as incessant drums fuel the twisted and foreboding synths lines. Title track Cyclone certainly steps things up a notch as pulsating tones cascade across a typical lethal and intense percussive section. Revolve closes out the EP bridging the styles of the two previous tracks nicely. A solid, grounded tone is set by the rolling subs and kicks while gradually accentuating high hats keep the pace of the track; the synth elements are slowly enhanced, always building and continue with fevered momentum. 

Slam easily convey an intense and controlled environment with this EP - exhibiting great depth and disciplined production skills.

Amsterdam based Keith Carnal has in recent years become seen as somewhat of a tastemaker in today’s world of techno. It might not then come as a big surprise to you that he has also become a favoured producer among many who are seen as “techno mainstay”, gaining support from numerous of his own musical inspirations and champions. Carnal, who grew up in a very musical home in the northern part of Holland, found techno at an early age when he began sourcing and selecting on his own. Techno was, and very much is, the first music that made a deep impression on Keith. This feeling only went on to become more cemented after a few years of composing on his own. It simply became clearer and clearer that Carnal is exactly where he belongs.

Keith’s own style of techno always has a strong emphasis on melodies and groove - it is made for dancing no doubt. Often the melody creates a rather ominous feeling for the listener, but with a certain melancholy to it. This is weighed up expertly with Keith focusing on the tracks being driven forward by strong percussion elements. His compositions contain a fresh vibe that immerses his audience as much as it does with his fellow producer and DJ colleagues. 

Carnal’s own productions very much goes hand in hand with the selections he makes as a DJ. A set of Keith’s always focuses on keeping the tempo and the groove up and going. Classic productions are mixed confidently with more current ones. His sets flourish with tracks that are atmospheric and contain strong melodic segments - tracks where percussion and bass play a major part in why being selected. For Keith Carnal creating the right groove is the main target. This year will see Keith releasing several strong productions as well as continuing his extensive international touring schedule, where he is headlining many of the major festivals and clubs. Keith Carnal is a fresh wind in today’s techno climate.
