My music is fully notated and is intended for live performance by live musicians.

After completing my doctorate in composition in 1979 from UNT, I took 30 years off from composing to join the computer software revolution as a software engineer.  In 2010 I began composing again and have not stopped. So, I find myself beginning (restarting?) a composition career rather late in life...but that's OK.  Most of the works posted here were written since 2010.

American composer based in Chicago; Cardiff Uni PhD alumna; Illuminate Co-Director; Britten-Pears Young Artist 2019-2020

Zhou Tie, a Chinese composer who holds 1st class honors from Raffles Music College in Singapore and was awarded the outstanding student in 2011 by the Department of Music. He holds a BA in Music in Nanyang Academic of Fine Art in Singapore. He is study in Royal College of Music now. He study composition with Kenneth Hesketh, Gilbert Nouno，Michael Oliva( Electroacoustic music), Jonathan Pitkin(orchestration), Chris Green, MikeLadouceur（Composition for screen）, Peter Sparks, Howard Williams, Natalia Iuibassa（conducting). Zhou Tie was the only one of the Chinese student in Royal College of Music who was awarded special scholarship -“Lucy Ann Kones” scholarship in 2017. Zhou Tie engaged music festival (Aberystwyth) and was studied with American composer- Arlene Sierra in 2017.
In 2018, Zhou Tie was admitted to the doctoral in Cardiff University and study with Dr Arlene Sierra.
As a composer, Zhou Tie has gotten many opportunities to write a lot of commission works for many professional artists and contemporary ensembles in the world. His pieces has been performed internationally, in places such as America, UK, Bulgaria, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Russia，Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, HongKong, Xi’an, Lan Zhou, Su Zhou, HangZhou.   
The piece which is "Sail to the south" won the Singapore style award in Singapore Ding Yi contemporary ensemble composition competition in August 2018. The piece which is " I cross half of China to sleep with you" was selected in ShangHai contemporary week in 2018 and performed by Soundstreams which is a professional contemporary ensemble in Canada.
