This one is a gem! Originally recorded @ 117 BPM, but I was going through some classics and heard this and thought how much different and chiller it would sound if I brought it down to 101 BPM. What a difference!

The Kero 1 remix/re-edit that took the dj world by storm is finally on 7” vinyl. On the A side, “Spanish Joint” remix was featured on Okayplayer,  HouseofDisco, BBC 1xtra, Soulection UK Boiler Room and played digitally by top DJ's when it dropped nearly a decade ago on Soundcloud. The b-side remix of Roberta’s cover gets a new dance floor treatment never been heard before. Both sides are dance floor sure shots.

One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-’80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles. In addition to numerous mix- tapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000’s, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group’s live events, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla.

Came across this pretty amazing full-length version of Brazilian Rhyme just recently when checking out all of the previously unreleased bonus tracks that had surfaced on Japanese reissues and compilations over the years. It's actually a version of Toninho Horta’s “Beijo Partido” with (as far as I can tell) completely different English lyrics. 

For this edit I’ve used the Ponta De Areia interval as an intro and added a brief edit of the much-loved version from "All 'n All" as an outro.

On “Breakin’ My Heart”, Jim Sharp finds a way to bridge the summery goodness of ATCQ with the original instrumentation sampled by Dilla. The iconic vocal lead of Bebel Gilberto floats over the boom bap drums to make it a sure shot. The flip side, “Check Minnie's Love” once again shows that Naughty NMX and Runex are on point. The product is horns, beefed up beats, fat bass and silky smooth vocals to make you think it’s ’92 again (without the Rhime). Minnie rips the lovely 
vocals into a dance floor banger.
