We are back again for another edition of SWK and another member of the Loft Sessions crew Barry Onslow. We've also included a Q&A from the boy which can also be read below ⬇️

Who are you?

I’m Barry Onslow from Stourbridge, I work full time as an accountant but my true passion is music.

Who inspires you?

There are too many to list.. recently I have taken a big liking to SIT’s sets, their ability to switch it up between the deep tech and the darker sounding minimal shows how you don’t have to define yourself to one genre.


I’d say the biggest inspiration for me and I bet many others is The Martinez brothers, the energy they bring and the clear love they have for the music speaks volumes. Their sets aren’t the only thing I love about them, their productions are always a vibe and let it go I think will be one of my favourite songs for many years to come.


What is your sound?

I would say at the moment I’m most into my minimal however I don’t let one sound define my sets as the mix I have done for you today is the more UK sounding deep tech. Relating back to the last question SIT have really inspired me to have fun mixing both these sounds and not limit myself as I have a massive love for both these sounds.

When did you start your journey?

I first started loving dance music around the age of 16 and my first love was EDM, I haven’t now listened to EDM in years as my taste has matured since then but those days will never be forgotten! I also remember watching M4SONIC on youtube making songs with the ableton push and being mind blown with the creativity.

The journey really got going after attending my first few raves at the rainbow venues (RIP), every day my love for dance music grew stronger and stronger. I’ve been producing for 3 years now and DJing for a short while longer. I’m trying to hone my production skills before putting anything out there.. but I believe I’m not very far away!

Where are you located and where do you wanna go?

I currently live in Stourbridge and in terms of where I want to go I would say any opportunity to play music to people feels like a blessing and I’m enjoying my residency at Loft so let’s see where the journey takes us!

Why is music important to you?

I know it’s cliche to say but music really changed my life. I was very shy and introverted growing up and going out to raves really changed that for me, being able to connect with like minded people on the dance floor really bought something out in me. Music is like another language, the power it has to connect people is unmatched. Being given the opportunity to play music to people and hopefully give them the experiences I’ve had is one of the main reasons I love DJing.
