Recording of my set from Don't.. I played 00.00-01.00 After Aural Sects, before Bintus and Truss . Then for the last hour we all jumped on for a four-way back to back... Sadly the recorder died before capturing much more.. It's a great recording with both direct feed from mixer, mixed down with the noise of the crowd to give a feel for the vibe on the night :)

Infected by the house and techno virus as a teenager growing up in the north-east of England, and driven by his desire for eternal summer, six years ago Garry Todd began a nomadic life of Australian beach life, Balearic party island insanity and British summer.

As a DJ, producer and party organizer, he quickly became a central figure in the newly burgeoning club scene in and around Sydney, with his legendary 'Bread & Butter' parties and regular headliner-sets at festivals like Playground Weekender and Stereosonic alongside artists like Jimpster and Ricardo Villalobos. The uniquely styled globetrotter refers to the latter as a great source of inspiration for his own sound, besides Soul Capsule, Basic Channel and the music of his buddies Acid Mondays. Speaking of sound, Todd is far away from committing himself to the zeitgeist and instead is raging nimbly throughout the House genre.

Now, following several well-received releases on his own label Contemporary Scarecrow, Garry Todd follows up with his debut album "Nora Lilian" on BPitch Control. "Nora Lilian" is an album in which a psychedelic soul dwells, that sometimes gets lost in rapturous atmospheres and in particular it is an album that is always aimed at the dance floor in a charming and determined way.

Anticipating the album Gary was kind enough to submit an exclusive mix to us to highlight his diverse skills, as well as catching up for a quick chat about the album, his inspirations, the studio, and anticipating his Berghain debut next month.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!

We’re not only kicking off the new year 2016 in some bootylicious fashion, but with a special release by the axis Tokyo-Chicago-Berlin. Both the Japanese techno legend DJ Shufflemaster as well as his compatriot and partner-in-crime Chester Beatty will debut on BPitch. Since their first joint EP from 1997 on Robert Armani’s label Cloned Vinyl, the duo held a special connection to Chicago, the origins of house music.

By saying Chicago, we also have to mention the legendary imprint Dance Mania. One of its members, Charles „DJ Funk“ Chambers, is still considered as the synonym for the rough and raw ghetto house sound penetrated by TR-808 and TR-909. The oldschool track „Our House Music“ by DJ Shufflemaster & Chester Beatty bows to the still timeless chi-town style with its distinctive, analog-driven synth bass line, rattling hi-hats as well as warm and epic chords. It’s an impressively simple arrangement that spreads a nostalgic drive with its glockenspiel intermezzo and the iconic vocals by DJ Funk. The remix by DJ Tasaka is not only highlighting the delay on vocals and some atmospheric soundscapes, especially the 808 drums and the 303 bass lines are reminiscent of the futuristic classic Chicago acid. Platinum-selling recording artist, label boss, festival promoter, true innovator in the pantheon of popular music, cultural champion, cracking DJ: there’s a lot to be said about Kevin Saunderson.

His influence runs deep, through both adopted hometown of Detroit, and music culture as a whole: as one of the Belleville Three, the high school trio which also includes Juan Atkins and Derrick May, he irreparably changed the face of electronic music; with Inner City, he gave it some of its most memorable tunes. 

The genesis of today’s enormous techno scene can be retraced straight to Kevin, Derrick and Juan, as their formative experiments on rudimentary hardware sketched a blueprint for a genre that was yet to exist. By absorbing Kraftwerk, cutting-edge funk, local radio stalwart The Electrifying Mojo’s electicism, and all manner of new synthesiser and drum machine-led pop music, the Belleville Three broke new ground as musicians and DJs in the 80s. 

Saunderson’s comparatively late start as a producer – kicking off in ’87 under the moniker of Kreem, with E-Dancer and Reese two of the more well-known names to follow – inadvertently gifted him a headstart. With the eruption of house music a few hours down the I-94 in Chicago, Saunderson married Detroit’s raw sound to more tactile, pop-leaning sensibilities. Inner City was born, and global success followed.

Between “Big Fun”, “Good Life”, debut album Paradise and a number of follow-up singles, Inner City (Saunderson and vocalist Paris Grey) amassed 12 UK top 40 hits and over six million records sold worldwide during their peak. A dancefloor-dominating remix by Luciano in 2008, and a globetrotting reunion tour in 2012, underscores the longevity of Inner City’s classic sound. 

His nickname of ‘The Elevator’ is apt: for his role in transporting Detroit’s new sound to a wider audience; as anyone who has seen him perform live can attest, his high-energy, high-spirit and high-impact DJ sets; and for spending the past 35 years of his life progressing the culture he helped create. 

Operating in tandem to his golden run as a producer in the late 80s and early 90s, Saunderson’s own KMS record label – a remarkable 30 years strong in 2017 – has chronicled the early footsteps of R-Tyme, Blake Baxter, MK, Chez Damier, Derrick Carter, Bicep and even Saunderson’s son and regular DJ partner Dantiez more recently. 

A special 12” series in 2008 called History Elevate, released in tandem with fellow polymath Carl Craig’s Planet E label, brought contemporary names like Mathew Jonson, Simian Mobile Disco and Loco Dice into the fold, proving his nous for fostering relationships with each new wave to come through techno’s gates. 25th anniversary compilations and numerous reissues have followed suit. 

Saunderson has a behind-the-scenes role to play, too: he is intertwined with the history of Detroit’s flagship Movement (formerly Detroit Electronic Music Festival / Fuse-In). Having produced the event in the mid-2000s, the last handful of years have seen repeated invites from Movement to display his ORIGINS showcase at the festival, bringing acts like Delano Smith, Phuture and DJ Minx under his curatorial umbrella. 

And of course, with a stacked international touring schedule over the decades, playing in nearly every country and at nearly every festival or club worth mention, he has not stopped pushing the feeling of techno on and on. 

The Groove That Won’t Stop, indeed.
