Without further delay, I’m proud to share with you my much requested set from Breakfast of Champion + It’s A New Day on New Year’s Day 2024!  I would have loved to share my live recording but due to a technical difficulty, I had to recreate the magic in a studio mix. It was amazing to kick off the new year with joy, love and hope rocking my set on the Heavy Petting Zoo stage to a sea of party people and all my friends up on stage. The highlight was debuting the track that DJ Denise and I produced at the top of my set. It’s always one of my favorite events of the year and this year was no exception. Live at Breakfast of Champions + It's A New Day 2024

Space Cowboy resident Rumblemunk is up on this week's RIPEcast with his live set from Breakfast of Champions 2024! 

In his words "I’m not a turntable-ist or an OG breakbeat DJ/producer, but when your set is in between Cut Chemist and Elite Force, whaddya do?

This set starts with a supporting MC, blazes through a mash-up of Drummatic Twins re-releases (thanks Nick), followed by my BOC 2023 release Shake That Thing, stops in with some Nick Thayer, bounces through my Eminight’s Doom bootleg, then settles in for an Elite Force medley (thanks Simon) that ends with playing the CDJ like an instrument. Brass Monkey gets us back on track heading towards a half time grind and shake, then resetting with a classic breakbeat, ending with my latest release, a Tears For Fears bootleg.

Deckard - RIPEcast Deckard BoaF '24

On the RIPEcast this week close friend of ours Tadao! Recorded Live at Birds of a Feather 2024. 
Tadao became captivated by Breakbeats in the sands of the Black Rock desert in 2002. Years later he joined Strategik to help throw renegades and keep the Bay area Breaks scene vibrant. In the 2000 teens, the proliferation of Breaks in the Bay Area waned. Never content to stand on the sidelines, he jumped on the decks and founded Red Hot Beverly to help keep Breaks alive and well.

I always held the Freestylers in high regard so i thought i would put together a studio mix celebrating their music over such a long career. Lots of slapping breakbeats, high tempo in the first hour and a bit lower in the last 20 mins. As the title suggests I've Cut & Paste a lot of the tracks using Ableton to make edits and mixes on the fly while each track is mixed in key.

Decadent Oasis, Thursday Night, Burning Man 2015

Opening night of Burning Man 2016, Dyson and I had the opportunity to play an improv tag team at Camp Suburbia. We had a blast taking the party up over two hours from a chill sunset to a packed dance floor.

Burning Man 2016

There are few more challenging environments to DJ in than an open air moving vehicle in a whiteout dust storm. But there are also few environments as fun to dance and jam in. This year, I played a lot more day time sets which let me bring out a lot of ghetto funk breaks I'd been saving up.
