From spinning early breakbeat/rave tracks in Edinburgh’s institute of dance music ‘The Venue’ (RIP) in September of 1990,on to residency’s at Edinburgh's seminal tech trance club night 'Sublime',The Venue,Beatroot@Ego, Pivo Cafe and Low Gravity@The Liquidrooms, Kev's unique fusion of deep & driving tech-styles has led him to become one of the respected figures within the Scottish clubscene. 
Since 1993, his radio shows & guest mixes on Forth 1, Kiss FM, Beat 106,Fresh Air,BBC Radio Scotland, Clyde 1 & Dex FM (Sydney) have given him the opportunity to push his sound to an even wider audience.Having played over 30 guest mixes on East/Central Scotlands premier station Forth 1 between 1993-95,he eventually moved on to present his own Saturday night show on Forth in 2002 and is currently in residence on Beat 106 Scotland.
He has released under his KPAXX guise & Kev Wright since 1999 ,with vinyl releases on Well Wicked, Addictive records & Plastic Fantastic,moving into the digital age & the realms of Beatport with remixes and releases on Plusquam,Black Hole, Avanti, Plastic Music,Adjust Recordings, Audiablo Records,Fixate,Beat Therapy & Quanza from 2007 through to present day.

Dave started DJing in 1998, running a few nights at Studio 24 in Edinburgh with his flatmate.  Since then he has had the privilege of playing at a variety of the city's best known clubs including residencies at Long Weekend, Edenangels, Tokyo Blu, Majestica and Melt; and guest slots at nights as diverse as Mingin', Karnival, Freqbeat, Satisfied, and Bootleg.

Dave's musical versatility is reflected by the wide range of nights he has performed at: his sets often range across the spectrum from deep, tech house, through dark progressive and tribal sounds, to all manner of funky-to-hard techno.

Originally from Scotlands coastal East Lothian but now based in Edinburgh . Very broad musical tastes influenced over the years, my parents loved a party, their music definitely influenced me.

I was into early gangsta rap in 90s, then Leftfield,Daft punk etc , whilst working in a kitchen as a teenager in a Saturday, i listened to Pete Tong before finishing work and heading home for the essential mix later! 

Became hooked on clubbing during the early days of prog , 2000 onwards it was every weekend nearly.My love of clubbing and music has never stopped from those days.


Picked up Belt drive turntables before moving to 1210s in 06 and added Pioneers, I still use vinyl but mainly digital nowadays.


Over the years I have played in clubs in Edinburgh at nights such as Beatroot, Karnival. 

Aswell as Edinburgh I have also played at Kinfolk in Williamsburg ,Brooklyn NYC, Cariocas Beach Bar in Greece and also in the glamorous Cote d'Azur areas of St Raphael/Frejus. 

I hit a buffer in 2018 due to family circumstances and it wasn't until 2020 I got back into DJing again. 

I did 2 vinyl live streams during lockdown and afterwards I was Invited to do guest mixes for Online group PFG , I was then asked by Steven Mccreery and Kev Wright to do mixes for Beat 106. In July 2022 I was asked by Belgium/France based station, Xbeat radio to do a mix. I have since done a further 6 mixes for them .

The Pinnacle for me has been playing at the mighty Skyline parties in Glasgow, I was first asked to play at their 2nd Birthday Sudbeat Showcase in May 2024 alongside Graziano Raffa, Marcelo Vasami, Nicolas Rada, GMJ and Matter .

Incredibly I was asked to play again at the Selador records party in September 2024. Dave Seaman and  Steve Parry, alongside Kasey Taylor,Tara Brooks.

I like to try and use music from many different genres and artists. Anything goes ! 

From Ambient sounds to Hip Hop,Jazz,Disco and on to good ol House music with anything else in-between! 

I continue to record guest mixes for stations around Europe and hopefully beyond in the future ,

I am Stuart Niven. I used to DJ in clubs in Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland in the late 1990's before losing touch with the club scene during my years at University. I then moved from Scotland to Seattle in Washington State in the USA to become a climbing and consulting arborist. I own PanorArbor (http://www.panorarbor.com/) which is a small tree care and preservation company based in NE Seattle. I plant trees, prune trees, rescue cats and drones from trees and try to touch a tree at least once every day! I dabbled with making music in my early to mid twenties and have posted some on SoundCloud as https://soundcloud.com/the_yggdrasilian and hope to create more music soon. 
This page is set up for my old mixes which I am slowly recording into my PC so I can upload and share my old tapes from the era of recording my mixes onto tapes to be given to friends and other dj's and club night promoters. Please enjoy.

My name is Stuart Niven but some people used to know me as DJ Torsion when I used to play a variety of Italian, Spanish and other European house, trance and hardcore at parties in the North East of England in the mid 1990's as well as Scottish bouncy techno and hardcore, hard and acid techno, hard house and Euro-trance music in clubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and sometimes Leeds in the late 90's. I started DJ'ing when I was about 14 and bought a pair of basic turntables and mixer, then about a year later upgraded in 1994 to belt drive Soundlab turntables then in 1997 splashed out and bought some Direct Drive technics MKII SL-1210's which I still own and they still work perfectly. I was very active as a raver and clubber in the 90's ,moving away from the scene in the 00's but never stopped loving the music which I listen to every day while working and driving. I am hoping to start mixing again and recording it for the world to hear so watch this space for new uploads!
