Singularity, the Rhythm and Dance Specialists, have been key playaz in the resurgence of the Old Skool in recent years. As a crew, they had humble beginnings, putting on events at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington, The Grow in Tottenham and Bar 512 in Dalston, yet, fast forward 5 years and wow how far things have come; from stage takeovers at Boomtown, Glastonbury and Outlook festivals, to international raves, to pioneering brand new genres like Racket, and bringing back the old genres like Darkside DnB. Singularity have supported and pushed countless fresh faces and continue to be a driving force behind exciting music. To celebrate their 5 year anniversary, Singularity took over SET Vault in Woolwich, powered by the incredible Semtex Soundsystem. The Young Punx – Mashpop & Punkstep: DnB Mixes

The Young Punx team up with Croatian drum & bass powerhouse Kodin to reimagine tracks from their cult 2009 album Mashpop & Punkstep through a dark DnB lens.

At the centre of the EP is “Like Dat” (feat. Count Bass D) — a tough, neuro-tinged rework that blends heavyweight low-end with occasional Blade Runner-style synth atmospheres. Bronx-born indie-rap legend Count Bass D delivers surreal, coded verses — retelling The Young Punx’s tour stories in a hybrid of Tennessee/Atlanta slang and clipped London RP — over Kodin’s cinematic production.

Also included is Kodin’s reinvention of the ragga-tinged “Juice and Gin”, the remix that first caught The Young Punx’s ear and sparked the whole collaboration. His distinctive sound design and uncompromising grooves push the track into deeper, futuristic territory.

To complete the package, Phonat’s Punkstep Mix of “Ready For The Fight” is included — a rock-meets-drum & bass collision driven by distorted guitars, perfectly reflecting the culture-clash ethos of the original album. Previously released, it’s included here to round out the DnB collection.

Visuals for the release come from Dutch artist Han Hoogerbrugge, whose typographical chaos of lyrics set against pixelated sea creatures and cityscapes offers a uniquely abstract response to the music.

And if that wasnt enough darkness 'Journey To The Moon‘ doesnt feature any horror samples and is still just as pitch-black: relentless beats, heavy sub and rushing synths guarantee all hell gallops, without anything powerful enough to stop this beast. To balance the tension the positively uplifting 'Dope Break‘ combines the rough with the melancholic and has enough punch to light up any floor at peaktime. To close the EP in style Tim supplies a remix of On 1 Crew´s 'Bad Dreams‘, an obscure little number that LTJ Bukem used to play in 93 and which was the first release on Parallax in 2016. Tim effortlessly flipped it in no time and delivered this nutty jungle techno beast. Enjoy this 'terror brought down to earth'!
