Hotflush are proud to welcome an exciting new talent to the roster. Her name is Or:la and she arrives at her debut 12” already boasting a formidable reputation as a DJ and promoter in the UK - her long-standing Meine Nacht party is Merseyside’s finest and her appearances on WHP line-ups are turning heads. The 12” in question is ‘UK Lonely’ - a four track EP that flaunts enviable range and seems to contradict the producer’s youthful years. In it she covers a broad spectrum of past and contemporary influences spanning garage, Afrobeat, breaks and dubstep.

The A-side is punchy yet elegant: vocal cut-ups drift through off-beat percussions in title track ’UK Lonely’, while riddims and melodies weave in and out of each other on an exotic ‘Limbosoup’. The B-side is more contemplative: ‘X & O’ recalls the wistful vocals and layers them over aughties breakbeats before ’Jaipur’ rounds off this opening salvo in delicate and playful fashion, hinting at things to come.

"I first got introduced to Cliff Lothar through a mutual friend of ours at the time, Lori Napoleon (Antennes). I was surprised by what I heard. He had this feel in his music that seemed to set him apart from just about everybody I had heard at the time. 

From the start of my time over at Submerge with Mike Banks, Mike had always given me demos to check out, because he just didn't have the time and a lot of the stuff that came in sounded very much the same. A lot of it was very well made but to be honest it was rare to find something that stood out.

A few years later, me and Mad Mike were talking about some of the old UR records and one off labels, and I mentioned World Power Alliance. Mike had always wanted to fire the label back up, but there was just never enough time to scout artists outside of Detroit to fill the roster. I said I might have some stuff sitting aside from friends of mine over there that you may like. None of it really seemed to grab him till I popped in Cliffs stuff.

The thing that always made me crazy is that I would have loved to snatch up some of the material and put it out, but we just couldn't find enough variety of artists around it to fill in more records.

This record contains some of those tracks. This guy knows what he's doing and I'm sure you'll hear plenty more from him in the future. This was one of my favorite records years before it's been released, and I hope you all enjoy it too."

Aerea Negrot offers up the ‘Pisco Sauer’ EP on Shaun J. Wright & Alinka’s Twirl imprint this February, accompanied by remixes from Honey Soundsystem’s Jason Kending and Shaun J. Wright himself.
The inimitable Aerea Negrot has grown to become a highly respected figure in the Berlin underground scene over the past few years. Originally hailing from Venezuala before relocating to the German capital, Negrot has regularly played at clubs such as Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Griessmuehle, about://blank, Suicide Circus and an appearance at Berghaun’s Panorama Bar in 2018 amongst releasing material on BPitch, Batty Bass and more.
Here though we see Aerea Negrot return to Twirl, following a remix of the label-heads’ ‘Need Someone’ back in 2015, with a new single in the shape of ‘Pisco Sauer’. The original mix leads and lays focus on dynamic, crunchy drums, heady resonant bleeps and murky bass arps at its core while soft pads and cinematic leads ebb and flow within.
Honey Soundsystem’s Jason Kendig steps on remix duties next, turning in a more refined take on things, extracting the soul of the original and reshaping it with a more direct groove-driven feel before Twirl co-founder Shaun J. Wright rounds out the package with his remix, opting for off-kilter electro drums and mind-bending analogue arpeggios whilst stirring in the elements of the original throughout.

Nark, aka Kevin Kauer, has headed up the Bottom Forty imprint since 2017 working with artists such as Doc Sleep, La Fracheur & Léonard de Léonard, Ali X, Ximena, Alisu and Shit whilst maintaining the philosophy oflaying down tripped-out, eccentric productions without conformity. Inspired as a young gamer and fueled by the inspirations of travel and gigs today, Nark has cultivated a set of sounds and ideas that have come together to form his creations today which include releases on labels such as Nein Records, 2MR and Bottom Forty in addition to remixes on Soul Clap, Friends with Benefits and Love Story. ‘Do You See Yourself?’ sees Nark invite Mexico’s Thomass Jackson who holds releases on Feines Tier, Gomma and his Calypso Records imprint and who brings his vision of ‘Do You See Yourself?’ and maintains the stirring style deploying stabbing bass notes, meandering waves and undulating unearthly atmospheres.

Italian Samuele De Santis from the 'This Is Not' crew makes his YUNG DUMB debut with a 4-track original EP, aptly titled 'Future Camp'. The A-Side features the title track, an acidic and dystopian sounding electronica cut, paired with dusty and raw 808s. 'Warm Truck' stays on the same train with a slowed break, accompanied by crunchy analogue basslines, off-the-box drum work, and hazy keys. The B-Side opens with 'Voices Of Varese Lake' a club-ready number with airy vocals and punchy, woody percussion. Closing out the EP is 'Time Machine' which forays into more of an early-night house sound with soulful crooning sample bits, instrumentation chops, and wavy synths. This is Future Camp!
