Welcome to my DJ page. Thank you to everyone who has liked the page so far, if any of your friends like the style of music I play then please invite them to follow this page. 

I was born in the mid-eighties and raised in Derby, UK. From a young age I was fascinated by my parent’s record player and use to pretend I was DJ-ing, when I was actually just scratching their records (whoops). As my parents came to the UK in the 70’s/ 80’s their records where mostly Disco/Funk based everything from Abba to James Brown. To compliment this, my parents were influenced by their respected cultures which are African and Indian; I remember so many diverse sounds in my household growing up. 

As I hit my adolescent years my ear came into tune with a particular sound which I can only describe as infectious, soul-felt, and mesmerising. To this day when I hear a song that has this DNA I instantly get excited and put it into my “special crate.”

As a teenager I used to tape the radio on a cassette and press pause when the DJ started talking. Without fail every Friday night was the one because I love Hip Hop and RnB, in this case Tim Westwood provided the education of US music to its UK fans. Hip Hop and RnB of the 90’s was my first music love and to this day is my favourite era and genre of music. Here, I thought I was Puff Daddy or the Notorious BIG as I would get my dad’s keys from the kitchen and sit in his car; pretending to cruise in a static car whilst draining the battery as the engine was off and tape player on (whoops). Equally, looking like a goof when borrowing my dad’s trousers and going to primary school looking like MC Hammer. 

As I slowly matured whilst reciting every popular Rap/RnB lyric of the 90’s I heard the change in music as time progressed into the 2000’s. Here, I began to hear the evolution, which I can only describe as a movement from old school to new school. During this period I felt the need to open up to other genres of music and during the early 2000’s I began researching and listening to House music. By the mid-2000’s I was totally engrossed in this sound and specifically the instruments that created an environment for freedom and expression. This was a fascinating journey for me as I discovered the links between Hip -Hop, RnB, Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz and House. As the decade past and we reached 2010 I began to look at music as almost one genre and just variations in sounds that caused us to react accordingly. Here, the meaningful lyrics of an RnB classic became the poetic baseline of deep house track. 

After experiencing three decades of music which included a love for certain Popular, Rock, Indie, Reggae, Garage, African, Asian, British, Latin and Oriental music I now understood that everything came from the beat of a drum and a need for humans to communicate their deepest thoughts. 

In 2011 I decided to buy some DJ decks and play the sounds I believe to uplift the soul, encourage dancing and promote freedom and expression. By 2012 I started DJ-ing and over the past two years I have been blessed to be surrounded by some great artists and people who have opened up opportunities for me based on my passion and not the number of years I have been DJ-ing . For this I am thankful as a room full of people having a good time is my motivation. Speaking honestly (as we always should) as cliché as it sounds, it is just about music and dancing for me and all the other connotations and gimmicks that may come with being a DJ are not something of interest. My DJ playing style is simple, just make music out of music, no virtual effects, or styles - letting the production of a record shine for what it is.

Growing up with music from an early age, Jonathan (Spy) began his education with the basics.  From music theory and composition Spy began toying with music creation as early as Highschool.  Influenced by artists such as Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold, and Deadmau5, Spy began his career learning all he could about music.  Upholding the ideology that he will never be done learning, Spy takes every opportunity he can to learn new methods and information, with a dream to one day blur the lines of all music styles into a crowd shattering sound and feel.  Spy looks at a performance as a whole, utilizing sound, light, and video to totally immerse the audience in the experience which can only be described as legendary!
