DAWAFER (GEN044) by https://soundcloud.com/hiqow is a pressure-cooked stockpile of built up energy with only incidental, surprising release valves; the rhythmical approach varies from fluid, goopy, malleable percussion to a sometimes more overtly kinetic confrontational pulse - before dissipating into a fog of looming, scorching sound clusters, murky pads that seem to radiate heat, implying scraping, stretched transformations of the raw material. Razor-sharp, gleeming metallic reflections, rattling membranes, spring-loaded patterns are interspersed or even temporarily hijacked by faint mutterings, mangled voices and chance recordings, figuring as the marker and constant reminder of a mostly invisible but always pushing phantom presence.

“A balance of exploration and protection, Dawafer (arabic for fingernails) is a personal album that’s as exhausting as any given Wednesday in my Cairo. All tracks on this album were constructed by the constant interruptions of the curious inspective nails, the sharp protective nails, and the stressed out self-bitten nails. The album’s artwork is a self-portrait set in the evening of that same wednesday.”

Omar El Sadek (b. Cairo, Egypt in 1998) is an audiovisual and inter-disciplinary artist specialising in electronic sound production and animated visuals. He’s currently based in Prague, where he studies Fine Arts & Experimental Media.
Omar’s work and sound pieces focus mainly on experimenting with the fragile nature of his surroundings including himself. On the visual side, he takes a similar direction investing in the poetic beauty of imperfections, both visually and conceptually. This principle is mostly visible in his works with artists such as ZULI, MSYLMA, Drew McDowall and Know V.A. Visual work has been exhibited at European audiovisual festivals such as Unsound Festival in Krakow, and Lunchmeat Festival in Prague.
Other works & commissioned soundtracks were for directors like: Tahoun, Selim, different commercial clients and independent short films like (House Of The Flying Architect), which was awarded the Best Overall Contribution medal at the 2018 London Biennale.

In December 2021, Intersub was born. Part collective, part ensemble, part label, part platform. One year later, our undefinable format has morphed into a compilation of genre-bending sound that journeys through modular synthesis, atmospheric soundscapes, and meditative drones that are disturbed by sirens without compromise. With this compilation we delve into the incomprehensibility of our shared realities - oscillating within the emotive spectrum of the human experience. We celebrate the variety and depth of the music produced by the talented artists in this compilation, and release it with gratitude for the chance to meet such inspiring people in such a short space of time.

Feedback Moves kicks off 2023 with a new record by @xcrswx and Lolina. @xcrswx are Crystabel Riley (drum-/human-skin) and Seymour Wright (saxophone), they released ‘Call Time/Hard Out’ on Feedback Moves in 2020. Lolina is an electronic and digital musician, who has previously released music as Inga Copeland and was a member of the band Hype Williams. 

Their collaborative relationship stems back to 2020. Lolina invited @xcrswx to contribute new work to a radio residency on NTS. They made 3 pieces played across 3 episodes. After these were broadcast, further ideas were exchanged which led to a collaborative audio-visual piece, streamed on Cafe Oto’s website in February 2021. They also performed as a trio live at Café OTO in 2022.

The artists now present a split 10” vinyl. @xcrswx weave the above-mentioned pieces into a 10 minute piece titled ‘FIXES’. The duo strip their sound to bare components. Beginning with the sound of fireworks, the pair then work through stuttered snare shots and warbled, interplaying saxophone.

Lolina presents ‘FM’; some of her strangest and most subtle work to date. Echoing and furthering the abstract turntablism found on previous records ‘Who Is Experimental Music?’ and ‘Fast Fashion’. We hear found sounds, close and distant, rhythmically gathered and dissolved in a swirl of dub tone and timbre.
