Welcome to the Windy City and the manufacturing belt, straight out the midwest 🌬 
The rap scene here wasn’t established yet during the mid-90’s, grabbing influences from NY and LA, still looking to find its own trademark. It was mostly gangsta rap sounding a lot like your typical californian signature, some more conventional production inspired by the eastern conference, and many in-betweeners. 
This recollection tends to point out a large panorama of tracks, think about it more as a collage and a mosaic, a plural entity. It reminds us about inner city social issues such as schizophrenia. It’s, in the end, the tale of two cities merged together, a manic dychotomia. One is giving a proud message about its territorial background and norms, the other one is preaching peace, asking for a better future.

What’s up Musty lovers! With the UK weather dropping some serious celsius, we thought we’d bring the heat with our next instalment. 

Don’t be shocked if this is the first time you’re coming across Lourenzo, who by his own admission is a man of mystery. Hailing from Curitiba, one of Brazil’s most lively scenes and the city he learned his craft as both DJ and collector. However, it’s obvious he draws upon a number of influences throughout his music.

When he’s not making music, you’ll find Lourenzo selling records or on the bill at some of Brazil’s hottest venues either behind the decks or running events - everything this man does is for the music.

We think it’s also important to mention the YouTube channel he runs, ‘Motion Blür’ where you can discover a whole host of digs from his vast personal collection.

LowMoneyMusicMix 35 comes from Parisian staple Bassam, the Distrikt Paris Boss and ANTAM Records co-founder Bassam is well known for his amazing and careful record selection as well as for his great productions. Having him on our radar for some time already our last meeting in Paris finally cemented the idea of having him on the mix series eventually. One year later here we are, enjoy this hour of carefully suggested storytelling and dancefloor bombs dropping by one of Paris' finest.

Automatic-pilot mode on all the way through this high energy oddysey delivered by @clubpizza shadow player @arthurbarousse. 
Versatile digger ranging from techno/electro to mental house, particularly skilled and technical DJ, he’s always exploring the internet deepest abyss to gather raw materials.
Dynamic motion and mechanical rhythms brought with swiftness. Edgy cadenza contrasting with dense sound design in this well-expressed recital.

KERMIX-20 - Barousse

We continue our podcast love affair with French artists with another rising star in Nemo Vachez. If you have been paying attention this week you will have noticed that we have been showing some serious love to Nemo and rightly so. His debut album has just dropped on his co-ran buy on sight imprint Forest Ill Records and true to form it manages to shoe horn in a wide swathe of genres across the 4 x 12” LP. From chunky electro, low slung beats, nasty riddims, and our recent premiere “Hey DJ (Radio Mix)” which squeezes in a mind bending amount of samples into its run time. 

There is also the label itself, founded by Idris Bena, Nadir Sanchez, Steve Didion, and of course Nemo Vachez has been a constant source of fire. Nemo is more than just the co-owner of a really great label, he regularly drops slabs of science on labels such as Rakya Records, Opia, and Lowmoneymusiclove. These skills just happen to transfer nicely into the DJ booth and this takes the Parisian artist far and wide.

Moving onto the mix, and after a sultry lead in, the disco pressure is applied at just the right level. Cowbells, piano licks, deep probing basslines, all have their space at the controls of Nemo Vachez. As you might expect, there is a huge amount of musical content transferred into Vachez’s mix, but it never feels over-saturated or too busy. Just when the energy levels peak, Nemo pulls it back and slaps a funky bassline down and a new avenue opens up..

I’ve been on to him about getting a mix together for a while now so am pleased to say that he has delivered in style on this one.

Jamie effortlessly takes us on a trip through many spaces in this 1hr mix and proves that he is as good at finding his own records as he is at finding yours.

A few words from Mr. Watts himself: “In terms of the tune selection in this mix, I wanted to try and strike a balance between the Ba Dum Tish sound and my own sound. I hope I have accomplished this but I will let you be the judge of that.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this mix whilst driving from Berlin to London when moving house and I hope you enjoy it too.
