I have always loved the different sounds of trains as they pass by or the sound of their loud horns. I recorded these sounds for many days to create this sound effect pack, which is perfect for train scenes.

I don't know about you, but when I was a child and I was near water I wanted to play in it. Well, now that I am a full grown crazy person and when I get near water all I want to do is record it. So here it is, me playing around with water and a few microphones. Presenting the North Country Water HD Pro Sound Effects Library, a unique collection of water sound effects recorded in North Idaho at 24-bit 96kHz. Recording began over five years ago in and around the lakes, puddles, streams and drainage pipes here. This library includes many dual microphone recordings and very close up, intimate water events. There are some medium and distant perspectives of a few streams but this collection is basically intended for heavy sound design applications.

Included are large water dumps, aggressive thrashing, heavy splashes and subtle waves washing up on the shore of a lake. Many objects were used to perform water movement and other actions including a 55 gallon oil drum, hoses, jugs, sticks, towels and my trusty farm tractor. Drainage pipes, small and large, were recorded from the inside and out during a flash flood that occurred a while back. I squirted water into the tractor loader bucket and recorded the deep concrete trenches that move water out of the local fish hatchery.

Footsteps in shallow water and slushy snow are included along with a few toilets, close up and personal (sanitized first of course!) From the smallest stream trickle to raging culvert pipes and a few things in between, I hope this collection serves you well and you don't have to pee too bad after using the sounds. Enjoy! -Frank

North Country Water HD Pro SFX Library

This is a test I conducted recording some very cold gusty wind on January 10, 2013 at 10:30 PM PST with a pair of Sennheiser MKH8040 microphones inside The new Rycote ORTF setup. The recording was made at 24-Bit 96kHz but this file is the 24-Bit 48kHz version. I have been using a MKH8040ST XY rig for a couple of years now and have become quite used to the stereo width and sound. This ORTF recording really shows off how wide the ORTF image can be. I have just begun recording in ORTF and will post more sounds as they become more interesting. :) Enjoy! -Frank

The microphones were placed right outside my front door and were facing North. There were a few strong gusts that hammered the Windjammer and it held up quite well.

Cold Wind Gusts MKH8040 ORTF

Here is the Crazy Sound of the Week for February 5, 2013. This is a mono 24-Bit 96kHz (MKH-8040) recording of drips off my roof into snow and ice holes drilled by the drips over time. It was a very quiet evening and the rain had just stopped. The water makes strange sounds when it hits the water inside the hole. Water Drips Into Cold Snow Holes

Presenting Gunscapes HD Professional SFX Library. Large caliber rifles, shotguns, pistols, machine guns and assault rifles were recorded at 24-Bit 96kHz. As many of you might know I have been working on a gun sound effects library for the last 3 1/2 years. At this moment I feel there is enough material finalized and ready to let loose. This has been a massive undertaking and I am very happy with the results so far.

The sounds produced by guns here in North Idaho are quite unique and that is how I came up with the name of the library — Gunscapes. A majority of the guns I recorded produced what I call a “Gun Landscape” style of response. If this sounds strange, then maybe it is. The reverb tails from the guns in many of the locations I recorded can be used as stand alone design elements or layered with other gun sounds you may have on hand to create the gun sound effect you desire. Lush, full bodied, echoey, bouncy, tight, sharp… it’s in there. A majority of this collection was recorded with multiple microphones and some were recorded with just a single stereo microphone setup. (Sometimes I spontaneously tagged along on mountain expedition trips with expert shooters and could only bring one stereo microphone rig).

Large caliber rifles, shotguns, pistols, machine guns and assault rifles were recorded at 24-Bit 96kHz. Stage 2 includes suppressed weapons in a variety of calibers. Included are “processed” versions along with the original “source” files. Having the processed versions allows you to quickly “drop in” a gun sound if you have a tight deadline or you just like the sound and it works for you. There are a multitude of various “pumped up” sounds that were derived from the source and multiple takes were mixed and mangled to hopefully give you a broad pallet of sounds to sculpt your masterpiece. As with the source files, you can layer the different multi-microphone processed files together for maximum impact.

Gunscapes HD Pro SFX Library

Ui One is the latest sound collection from The Library by Empty Sea. This collection contains over 1400 original sounds tailored specifically for creating user interfaces, telemetry, gadgetry and more.  Empty Sea's Mark Camperell, carefully crafted these sounds using a variety of sonic tools, a sample of which include synths, samplers, guitars and more. Each sound was recorded at 48k/24bit.  Then he processed, mangled and otherwise manipulated every single tone until it was something new, original and exciting. As usual, we meticulously edited, mastered and embedded the files with metadata. This collection is priced to move, so don't hesitate. If your project needs UI sounds heard nowhere else, Ui One from The Library by Empty Sea is the place to start.

The noises made by shot badgers and comparisons with harpooned whales will be among the measures used to assess the humaneness of badger culls in England, a government document seen by the Guardian reveals.

The paper also acknowledges that none of the shooters will have experience of killing free-running badgers and that the requirement to target the heart and lungs is untested.

Anti-cull campaigners have reacted furiously to the heavily redacted document, which is marked "protect".
