US Born, Marseille based house producer and DJ, Grant returns to Lobster Theremin, with a 9 track album brimming with warm, melodic, deep house cuts. Fantasy Blues drops November 29th via Lobster Theremin.

Opener, Ephemeral Chase signals a cosmic journey, driven with four to the floor motive. Mind Space is spaced out, modern deep-house at it’s best. On the flip, Zarenzeit joins Grant on Amaranthine Profundity, while Finite Elements chugs into an ethereal, vocal cut. Manifest picks up the pace, note a welcome homage to London town. Previous collaborator, Dan Piu features on stripped-back roller, Boundless. Joining forces on Invisible Skills, Brooklyn based composer Emil Abramyan injects otherworldly influences to the album, followed by Melancholic wiggler, Lucent Eyes. The Road In Front Of Me rounds out the release on soulful, classic tip, with velvet vocals courtesy of Jenifa Mayanja. Blissful.

Selections is very proud to announce ‘The Movement EP’ This is a Various Artists EP that includes tracks by Kai Alće, Demuir, Nick Holder and 83 West (Tyrone Solomon x Martino Lozej). We are using this platform for more than just music, for real change. We are extremely pleased to announce that 100% of the proceeds from this EP will be donated to Black Lives Matter. All four artists have graciously and enthusiastically donated each track for this very important release. Juno distribution will also be donating 100% of their proceeds as well. Artwork has been designed & donated by Selections artist Jamn Ensemble. We want to use this time to give back to black culture, as this music is rooted in black culture and without that we wouldn’t have this platform to begin with. Systemic racism is real. Police brutality is real. We will always fight to support our brothers and sisters around us, to uplift through music, and to use this as platform to educate and progress. Thrilled to present fresh new label Fluid Funk with their debut release by hot signing Beau Zwart. The label offers a platform of choice for creators and lovers of soulful house, hip-hop, jazz, funk, disco et al. The ethos of the label is to bring a community of like-minded people together, away from the complexities that sometimes hamper the course of the label-artist relationship.  Its sister imprint Fluid Electronics is dedicated to all things more muscular and 4x4 oriented, from house to techno via ambient and is about to launch shortly after the former. 

 

First to grace Fluid Funk’s dance floor-ready grooves is Rotterdam-based emerging talent Beau Zwart.  Fresh off a choice inaugural sortie on ‘INI Movements’ that hit the streets a few weeks ago, Beau steps in with his debut 12” ‘Beyond Two Souls’ - an infectiously smooth and solar-powered six-track platter featuring dynamic Dutch duo Fouk on remix duty.

 

Expect lavishly orchestrated cascades of ankle-twisting breaks, prismatic synthwork and summer-flavoured melodies to wrap your ears around as your feet and body give in to the power of that funky bass. Brewing elements of fuzzy pop, pixelated soul and tropicalised rhythms, Beau Zwart’s sound takes us on a wildly enjoyable ride across luxuriantly flowered scapes and fluttering cosmic-house horizons.   Interlaced with sugary Rhodes stabs and 8-bit harmonics a la ‘Floating Points’, Sykes’ warm vox intonations shows us the way into a pulsating heart of wonky, bop-infused boogie.  Expanding to further out-there, club-optimised bravura, Fouk’s take on the title-track is the kind of track that’ll make an impact in the sweatbox!  Pulling out the weirdo harmonics and left-of-centre jazz aerobatics.  ‘Ixodus’ lets its free-spirited sense of playfulness take over completely.  Flip it over and  ‘Marble Book’ unbolts the spacious pads and whirling alien riffs as a sturdy sub bass and gut-churning kicks beat time onto further estranged dimensions. A slightly more muscular but thoroughly sensuous workout, ‘Bustin Out’ fuses classical two-step-indebted breaks with lascivious ‘P-Funk’ tropes into one compelling club heater, before the EP’s sluggish closer ‘Illustrate My Way’ sends us into orbit for good with its slowed-down romanticism and otherworldly piano fantasy.

Who else would have thought before the year 2020, that this new decade starts with a devastating natural incident that pushes the entire world in a health crisis and recession? Well, we sure didn’t. And still, after 11 months, this damn virus doesn’t seem to go away. But no matter how bad this pandemic is. There is no need to stop being creative!

Many people used their time during the lockdowns as much as possible to make new music. And Jakobin is one of these guys who took his time this spring to work on brand new material, that is slowly but surely coming out the next months on various labels. One of them is his Locked EP on our imprint - fortunea.

The title track on the A-side is an amazing piece of house music. A great homage on the raw punching Chicago sound and the late 80s/early 90s UK rave era. Heavy Breakbeat-loops blend in perfect together with the use of 909 kicks, low-frequenced acid lines and a stabbing piano.

Turning over to the B-side there is the track ‚Pad Work’. A deep dub house tune with a nuance of Lo-fi-nism in it. Mysterious voices that are coming forward from the background of this bouncing beat, a restrained but also smooth bassline and hypnotic string- and synthesizer-passages are the main characters in this tableau. While ‚Dreadbox’ is sealing the deal on this release with an abstract melancholic sci- fi elektro approach.

Overall a conspicuous release, that lets you forget the chaos that is happening right now in this world.

Klaus Benedek grew up in a small town near Vienna. His interest in electronic music began during the 90s techno hype. He spent hours watching video clips on MTV and viva and thus gaining knowledge about electronic music. In 2004, he began teaching himself to produce. Gathering his inspiration wherever he could, he began collecting 12" vinyl records the same year and 2 years later got his first dj-gigs. From 2008 till 2010 he was one of the resident DJs at the MNML Thursdays in the Camera Club. In 2012 he started with Alex Kolodziej the event-series Tellerbetrieb. Currently he finds most of his inspiration in Chicago House, Deep House, Disco and Breakbeat. After releases on labels like Petrol Dollar, Subversaal, rekooda, Soul Shift Music, Clean and Dirty Recordings and tanzbar, Klaus launched his own label forTunea in 2014.
