EPM Podcast 141 comes from UK producer, Blueprint label runner and DJ James Ruskin. A bastion for British Techno, Blueprint Records was originally founded in 1996 by James and the late Richard Polson and since then has continued to be at the forefront of cutting-edge labels. Entering its 25th year with a series of 3 12” EPs we are also delighted to have James involved with our own 20th celebrations this year with his track ‘There Was A Time’ as showcased in this new mix. Taking a more restrained and experimental techno path this set sees Ruskin bring the likes of VC-118A, Surgeon, Mal Hombre, Bambounou, Kerrie, Planetary Assault Systems (PAS), Shifted, Vril, Anodyne and more into the frame. 

Consistently releasing quality material through Blueprint since the label's mid-'90s foundation, Ruskin has also issued several full-lengths and EPs through German institution Tresor, including 2001's ‘Into Submission’ and 2008’s ‘The Dash’. In addition to releasing collaborations with Surgeon and Oliver Ho, Ruskin has also worked with Regis (Karl O'Connor) as O/V/R, and produced more experimental, IDM-leaning material with Mark Broom as the Fear Ratio with several albums featuring on Manchester’s iconic Skam label as well as the duo’s new Deadhand moniker which recently saw an EP released on Seagrave feat. DJ Prime Cuts and rapper Sensational. As a series of EP releases drops as part of the label’s 25 year celebrations and with several album projects in the pipeline, 2021 sees James firmly back in the production hot seat. For the past fifteen years Argentinian-born, Barcelona-based producer Pfirter has been pushing a sound by turns steely, dark and uplifting, true to the founding principles of the techno's tetramorp but eager to throw his own vanguard, personal touch into the mix. From the early days onward, and no matter the medium of expression he's used, be it DJing, producing or as a label owner, Pfirter has kept working his magic with focus and style, gracing the likes of CLR, Figure and Stroboscopic Artefacts with some choice singles whilst headlining some of the most infamous electronic music bastions and events including Berghain, Tresor, Concrete, Awakenings and Time Warp. Ever since he embarked on his first European tour back in 2005, Juan Pablo has tirelessly worked at shaping one of the most idiosyncratic sounds in contemporary electronic music and successfully so. In 2006 he founded his own imprint, MindTrip. Raise the volume and enjoy.

DifferentSound invites Pfirter / Podcast #097

The back2back mix was recorded live at Fossil Archive Presents at The Glove that Fits in London. This is organised once a month on a Sunday evening by Roberto R.M.K, and it was a truly special one. 

Even though they had never played together previously, the blend of styles felt like they’d been doing it for years. It was a truly magical experience for everyone involved, which was aided by the lack of air conditioning which had broken the day before. The heat and music were very intense which resulted in everyone sweating like crazy! Hopefully this will be the first of many b2b’s they play.

EPM.189 comes from Fossil Archive boss, R.M.K. Hailing from London, R.M.K is an exciting new project by Fossil Archive label head Roberto. It represents a faster and more intense take on his unique brand of Techno. He utilises his knowledge and past experiences, which include regularly playing at Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, as well as fabric in London, to develop his individual sound. R.M.K has distilled that experience into this 2-hr set, recorded directly from his residency at The Glove That Fits, London for the EPM series. Featuring Axel Karakasis, NØRBAK, Glaskin, Juri Heidemann, Volster, James Ruskin, Stephen Brown, Franco Rossi plus a brace of unreleased tracks from Vinicius Honorio & R.M.K himself we get a flawless mix of tough yet hypnotic swinging grooves.

During his 20+ year career in music, Roberto has formed friendships and worked in partnership with other respected artists such as Trevino (Marcus In-talex), Jamie Anderson, Robert Owens, Goldie and Nastia. Although the focus is always on the very heart of the most raucous of raves, R.M.K never shies away from groove and funk. This is conveyed in a Live Show that utilises classic hardware from the golden age of UK Rave and now here on this new mix for the EPM series.

EPM.189 - R.M.K

R.M.K is the new project from London-based artist Roberto, known for his work as head of Fossil Archive. This alias sees him explore a faster, more intense take on his signature techno sound—drawing on two decades of experience and past appearances at clubs like Berghain, Tresor, and fabric.

Over the years, he’s collaborated with artists including Trevino (Marcus Intalex), Jamie Anderson, Robert Owens, Goldie, and Nastia. While rooted in the energy of peak-time rave, R.M.K’s sound keeps groove and funk at its core, brought to life in a hardware-driven live show inspired by the golden era of UK rave.

This set was recorded live at The Glove That Fits in London, where he holds a monthly Fossil Archive Presents residency. It features tracks from a forthcoming album produced with Jamie Anderson, marking ten years of the label.
