"The ever-prolific Brendon Moeller returns with a third EP for Knotweed under his Echologist alias, treading the line between glitchy minimal, propulsive techno and dubwise immersion with flair and poise. There are some powerful, deeply submerged kicks to be enjoyed on 'Activation', but they're not just deployed as standard. On 'Concentrate' they might be more prominent, but still there's a sense of confident restraint in which Moeller can create captivating energy and a full-frequency experience without resorting to obvious tactics. For those who favour something a little more stimulating and subtle from their techno experience, this EP has everything you need."

KW056 - Coefficient - Ultimata

Mary Yuzovzskaya's 'The More Your Know' EP is released via her vinyl-only label Monday Off in spring and is her first solo EP since 2022. The Berlin-based artist returns to her imprint following her tracks taking root on labels like Kvalia, Mnestic, and Semantica.

Up first on the record, 'Ittiologia' wriggles up in intensity with unbent drums and mysterious pads, building up to an unexplored alien soundscape marked by distant, otherworldly sonar pings. 'Micologia' follows, squelchy synths prattle amongst each other as rich bursts of low-end and splashes of 303 envelop the mind.

On the flip, 'Astrometria' reaches for the starry sky in full modular glory. Sequences bounce up and down as filtered synths woosh in the background before 'Oceanologia' dives into the abyss as the ideal closer. Its hypnotic bassline is accompanied by the foreboding sounds of the deep, rounding off yet another exemplary showcase of excellent sound design from Mary Yuzovskaya and her Monday Off label.

Archaic Podcast 509 - Dzeko

After his first contribution to Knotweed in 2015 (KW017 - Reflections E.P.) and his incredible track 'Own Structure' on KW020 Various Artists in 2016, Julixo is back on Knotweed with a full E.P.

Julixo is one of a kind producer. A drummer at heart, he has a broad interest in all types of music, and you can really feel it in his tracks where he loves to experiment with many different vibes.

The record opens with 'Red Valhalla', a though techno attack in the vein of his previous track 'Life of Crime', made to decimate the dancefloor. Julixo increases the pitch one notch and takes a more funky twist with the breakbeat infected 'Rose Tape', fast and to the point. The B side continues where 'Own Structure' left off: two tracks relying heavily on vocal and synth samples to bulldoze their way through your brain: Julixo is having fun, and you can feel it - it is contagious!

It is the rawness of this record that makes it special.

Junodownload Review: Julixo finally follows up his 2015 debut on Knotweed with this no-nonsense EP. The ominously titled "Red Valhalla" sounds exactly like its title, with dense, compressed kicks and razor wire percussion conjuring up a hard techno lover's vision of heaven. In a similar vein is the straight to the point "Fucked Up Drummer", where pounding drums support grinding riffs and wave upon wave of churning percussion. "Soulwave" is a slower and looser, but still an equally effective tough club workout. In contrast to all of these tracks is "Rose Tape"; based on a stepping, slinky electro arrangement, it still contains more grimy matter than the floor of an abandoned warehouse after a 24-hour party.
