Conscious Listening' is a podcast series by Pregnant Void record label that explores soundscapes born from the connection between deep ethereal music and the most advanced electronic musical experiments. 

This month's Podcast chapter comes from Roman Ćinske, cultural event creator based in Berlin and creative director of Aerial Palettes. The title of the mix is called 'Dawn Reveries' and the concept circles around finding the beauty in the repetition of morning rituals. It's an immersive depth and understated allure performance of patterns that occur so often they become automated enough to hold the listener rapt in a state of daydreamed reality.

Endurance @joshua-stefane is the ambient project of Canadian-born Joshua Stefane. Using modular synthesizers, field recordings, and cassette tapes, Endurance’s sound has become increasing minimal and tonally-focused over the years, employing a minimum of elements to create a maximum of expressiveness. In addition to releasing from labels such as Constellation Tatsu and Mystery Circles, Endurance also curates the Japan-based tape label Muzan Editions. As a live performer, he has appeared at numerous high-profile events such as Kyoto’s Star Festival, Tobira Records-run Extremely Cold Music Festival, Moment, and Scale, with an increasing emphasis on bringing deep ambient soundscapes to techno music parties.

For the fourth installment of our ‚Identity formation‘ podcast series, we are happy to present Mind over MIDI (@mind-over-midi-1). Hailing from Kristiansund on the northwest coast of Norway, Helge Tømmervåg has been crafting electronic sounds since the early '80s. His earliest work recorded under the now-familiar Mind over MIDI moniker arrived in the early '90s. He's released scores of highly regarded and stylistically uncompromising sounds over the years, appearing on labels including Silent Seasons, Diametric, Hibernate, Whitelabrecs, ROHS! Lontano Series, Shimmering Moods Records, Slow Tones Collages and via his own Berserk Fabrik.

His music can be described as sounds for daydreamers and nighthinkers. Inspired by the icy winds, snowy vistas and frozen landscapes in Norway.

If you can picture the very furthest, coldest, darkest part of Norway, that's where Mind over MIDI resides. If you want to get an idea of what it's like there, and can do without the frostbite, then this is the perfect solution.

For this episode of Transience we have invited expert improvisor and cosmic angel, Dan Nicholls to create a 90 minute journey to alleviate our physical realm anxieties. I've been following Dan's work for many years and am very happy that the stars finally align to host them live from the Cashmere Studio to begin the weekend's programmation. I love the way Dan is able to create such detailed sound worlds that invite us to meander about in them, sway like spores or lay gently nestled in their foliage. For this occassion we sat on the floor of the Cashmere Radio studio in the same space as the audience with a few cushions and Dan’s live setup. Having spent the previous night dancing we were super relaxed and ready to continue the adventure. We arrived at the studio with no real plan, wondering about how to start and what kind of sounds the set might begin with. Despite the not knowing, we both had total trust and a willingness to surrender to the moment.

Dan sees improvising as a way to bypass certain tendencies we might have to control and rationalise; to get in the way of the story or the energetic flow. A personal process of deconstructing, unravelling and healing – but more importantly an experience of playful sharing, creating sonic spaces that the listener can inhabit. The set features an improvised text by Dan’s child Liv, which touches on our origins in the cosmos and the vital need to listen to our bodies. This monologue is spoken in a dream-like imaginary voice, refracting some of the ideas that Liv has been exposed to and has intuitively felt. A different kind of truthful speech. So in a sense, it does with a child’s freedom and clarity of thought what this collection of improvised sounds and imaginary landscapes also hopes to do.

We invite you all to listen to your bodies and your hearts, and lay down to embark on this journey back to our stars.

Antipodean audio artist, @materialobject has seen his creative output embraced by worldwide audiences since his debut in 2008 as he quickly rose to prominence with a stream of impressive solo works, collaborations and remixes on European and American record labels.

Beyond his solo efforts, he has also collaborated with notable musical luminaries including the late Pete Namlook on his Fax + 49-69/450464 label as well as Uwe Schmidt aka @atom_tm and has since toured the planet taking his music to all manner of events from Berlin's infamous Berghain club to Japan's Labyrinth festival along with clubs, festivals and Ambient Yurts in every corner of the god’s grey earth.

In the year 2014 he co-founded his own audio imprint titled ‘No.’ with Atom™ through which both artists explored unheard areas within electronic music and released over 30 albums and EPs from artists from all over this planet.

The year 2023 sees the release of his breakthrough ‘Telepath’ project on Vienna's renowned @editionsmego label, navigating as yet uncharted sonic space and revealing a completely new sound for the artist as he fused Acoustic and Electronic tones to create an album of stunning depth and beauty.

With Patterns of Perception 110, Material Object weaves a richly emotive story that spans four dimensions. Revelling in its transportive nature, this mix traverses great distances to connect textures, emotions and colours that are both familiar and abstract. Channeling the bold creative thrust of 'Telepath', its warm instrumentation and angular electronic experimentation feels delicate, deep and natural. 
And yet underneath it all lies a profound sense of nostalgia, which Material Object carefully crafted by running the finished mix through additional filters and machines, instilling a feeling of hazy consciousness, and of fond, half-forgotten memories of childhood.

During this time, I reflected on a variety of musical experiences in recent years, to explore various sounds for this mix. I wanted to capture the beauty and tranquility of an outdoor music festival and combine it with the beauty of an intimate smoky venue.

I often find beauty in the ephemeral and feel a strong connection between music and the natural world. I hope you can enjoy this mix as a session that transcends time and space between great musicians.
