City Blues

A tribute to all those hours in the life that we loose with utterly senseless stuff and that vanish into oblivion. Not the hours that we loose on necessary evils like household chores but rather the ones like doomscrolling where we know, we could and should have used them better. But then in the end - does it really make a difference in the long run?
 
Three times the same motive with different turns after a few seconds respectively (at @0:00, @0:57, @1:50).  And a Coda @2:19 with an open question and the hint of an answer.

Again, this composition will come with lyrics in due course, however, since I don't have access to my studio currently, this will take some time - will likely publish some other things before.

Elegy for the Hours (Contemporary Piano Miniature)

This started with a very beautiful piano piece by Tom, then advanced by Jussi’s great electric guitar lead. I added an imagined lyric about someone not being able to commit to a relationship and the song was completed by Boon’s excellent acoustic guitar work. You just stand there (Piano Version) is the reduced, intimate version of my  track  You "just stand there" , released on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

No orchestra, no vocals – just one piano.

Performed on the legendary NOIRE piano (Native Instruments, VST), a custom grand recorded in Hall 3 at Funkhaus Berlin. The sound moves between “Pure” (clear, present) and “Felt” (soft, muted, almost like a whisper), so every note sits right in front of you.

The mood is vulnerable, reflective, but not without hope. The piano quietly says: “You just stand there,” and the melody drifts through sadness, closeness, fragility, and small traces of light. A lot of space, a lot of air, no distraction.

Musical style: minimalist solo piano with a cinematic feel. No beats, no layering – just keys, played slowly on purpose so every tone can breathe.

For late hours. For thinking. For that moment where you don’t want words, only feeling.

Kein Orchester, kein Gesang – nur ein einzelnes Klavier.

Gespielt auf dem legendären NOIRE Piano (Native Instruments), einem speziell präparierten Konzertflügel aus Saal 3 des Berliner Funkhauses. Dieser Klang wechselt zwischen „Pure“ (klar, präsent) und „Felt“ (weich, gedämpft, fast flüsternd) und bringt jede Nuance direkt an die Oberfläche.

Musikalischer Stil: minimalistisches Solo-Piano mit filmischem Charakter. Keine Beats, keine Layer, nur Tasten – bewusst langsam gespielt, damit jede Note wirken kann.

Wofür ist der Track gedacht?
Für ruhige Momente. Nachts allein. Zum Durchatmen. Für Szenen im Kopf, die eigentlich kein Wort vertragen. Genau dafür existiert diese Version.

Unfortunately, the connection has dropped, and we cannot be sure what is happening in the apartment where, at such a late hour, the light is still on. Probably nothing; they’re likely watching a film or reading a book. They might be projecting their reactions outward, and what we see could therefore be nothing more than the reflection of someone else’s nightmares — or dreams. Certainly, we have now reached a turning point: nothing can any longer be regarded as real, or the opposite... (all talk!).

This is the fifth in a series of eight easy, acoustic, rather short, and deliberately inconclusive tracks, assembled by combining new ideas with reworked older material, adding parts and sounds along the way.

Salomé’s song 
The story of an old man (myself)  who loves the 29 years young woman, named Salomé, next-door. She loves and lives together with a 29 years old man as partner. So it’s an impossible love. By the way, this is my second recorded  melody, from February 13th 2023. One thing: my dog Milo (he has passed) walks trough the melody at the midst of the melody.

Het verhaal van mijzelf, een oudere man die verliefd is op zijn buurvrouw, Salomé genaamd. Zij heeft een relatie met haar man, allebei 29 jaar. U begrijpt dat dit dus een onmogelijke liefde is.
(Het origineel/de eerste opgenomen versie met het verdriet dat dit met zich meebracht heb ik nog in bezit. Het gesnotter daarop vind ik niet uitgeefbaar. Opnames van de allereerste dag met opnames: 13 februari 2023). P.s. Mijn hond Milo, inmiddels overleden, loopt ook nog eens door de opname heen.

The piano is not just an instrument; it is a storyteller. My lifelong companion. Each piece holds the memory of a moment in time, of a period in life. Here, I share my personal journey—one miniature, one experiment, one story at a time.

I’m Konrad Spittelberg, 52 years old. Though I’ve always called Vienna my home, I have pursued various interests, building an interdisciplinary background that spans education in Latin and Greek, studies of Mathematics, Physics and Economics and a carreer in Consulting and Risk Management. Sometimes, you might also find me immersed in games of Go, Chess or D&D. 

But only when I’m not making music. Of course. Still then, all of my interests have shaped the way I think — and, in turn, the way I compose.

The instrument of my life is the piano. I play it since the age of six, the first 16 in music school with my dedicated teacher Margarete Gerlach (and also thanks to the city of Vienna to the incredible publicly funded music schools!). My piano playing saw multiyear interruptions due to travel and workload. But in recent years I’ve found the time to pursue my passion again—with renewed joy. I devote many of my evenings to developing, refining and rehearsing my piano miniatures. 

I inhale music wherever I find it. In the echoes of Renaissance motets or contemporary cluster music with my local choir, which I joined 30 years ago. In music running in the background of a fashion store which I Shazaam for later enjoyment. Or live concerts - there are so many gifted artists in the world! 

My music is a dialogue between tradition and exploration. Rooted in classical and romantic traditions, it ventures into jazz, rock, and pop.  I love to experiment—playing with unexpected tonalities, syncopated rhythms, and dynamic contrasts. My compositions often evolve through shifts in tension, rhythmic complexity, and harmonic modulations, sometimes venturing across the circle of fifths. I’m also diving deeper into the art of mastering, an area where I still have much to explore.
