This is the Laurie Bower Singers 45 RPM vinyl single (Mono) released in 1973. Music arranged by Ben McPeek. I think Ben had his kids singing on the fadeout.

Wish I was a plane
So I could fly above the rain
And leave my worries on the ground
Those worries in my mind
Are the imaginary kind
And if I was a plane
They couldn't bring me down
 
Maybe if I was a kite
That would make things right
But kites are tied down with a string
Besides they need a breeze
So they can fly along with ease
If I was a plane, I wouldn't need a thing
 
Above the clouds I would fly
In a sky that is blue
The world would be down instead of me
And though the mountains would try
They would not get as high
I know they'd try to touch me
But I'd be too free
 
Oh, the world will never see
A plane as high as me
My silver wings would touch the sun
And I won't rest till I find a spot up in the sky
A spot above the clouds just big enough for one...

This is a start. It needs lead guitar, drums, bass, keys, horns, backup vocals and an appreciative audience. Oh yeah, a better lead vocalist or two would be awesome!
