From the punchy 'Inlamint' to the unstoppable flow of 'Subway'. A darker twist appears on the mesmerizing 'Black Soil' finishing it off with a downtempo eyes closed delight 'Argonaut'.

"In this installation, Queerutopia, Ugo Woatzi refers to the possibilities of creating utopian spaces in response to oppressive patriarchal and heteronormative structures. The title also refers to the concept of Heterotopia carried by M. Foucault as somehow “other” spaces.

As a queer kid growing up in a rural area in the south of France, he had to follow certain codes and rules to become “a man”. They couldn’t embrace their identities freely and were afraid of being judged on their sexuality and gender. Dreaming of a free space to express themselves, they spent a lot of time in nature, near the river – which for them was magical – imagining their own world.

The visual material of Queerutopia was captured from different natural environments where they spent time as a kid. Digitally altered and constructed as a dreamlike pantheon, the images depict imaginary minds, bodies and creatures. Woatzi imagines this installation as a care tool and a spiritual process navigating between past present and future."

Women and men are equals in the kurdes democracy. Not like we think it is equal in Europe. The roots of this society are not based on the patriarcal system we live in, but a complete equality. An utopia which is in danger.

female:pressure is launching an awareness and solidarity campaign for the cantons of #Rojava (located in northern Syria), where women participate on all levels of decision making and building a new society from scratch, with built-in social, racial and ethnic justice, religious freedom, ecological principles and gender equality.

With a series of music, media and sound art to listen, dance and fight to, we would like to send our love and strength to these women and spread a positive message in support of their efforts.

We are calling for participation and submission of works. The work must be related and critically deal with the topic of #Rojava; otherwise there are no restrictions. Everybody is welcome!

The final publication is planned for International Women’s Day on 8 March 2016.
