"A Wrinkle In Time" is a series of curated guest mixes inspired by John Peels habit to accidentally play records at the incorrect number of rpm. Though it never failed to annoy and embarrass him, one of the tribute compilations released after his death was given the title "Right Time, Wrong Speed". Nowadays Wrongspeeders are a popular and fun tool for most DJs. "A Wrinkle In Time" is not about playing 45s on 33 or the other way round though, but it has one important rule, its only rule: Don’t get too close to the original playing speed of the record, the area between +4 and -4 on the pitch scale of the turntable is a forbidden zone.

Since I've recently recorded some balearic mixes for other channels, I was still in the mood for that kind of vibe, so here is a nice ride from synth-pop over italian and 80s soundtrack, japanese and south korean pop, leftfield and slow italo jams. While the first hour is more a dive into fresh and cold water, uprising talent @Jeepsooni from Seoul / South Korea provides the warm sunbath to sooth your senses with AOR und uplifting boogie in the second hour.

Q: Thanks for your contribution to our mix series, how did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the eventual result?

Thank you for having me! After the sun finally showed up here in Berlin a few weeks ago I managed to get my ass up and put some music together. There were a few records I recently picked up with that certain summer mood I was in plus a few things I wanted to upload on the channel since a bit. Tried to make sense of all this with the rest of the things that are standing around here. I guess you can definitely get all your besties in a car, roll the windows down and blast this mix on your next adventure but listen for yourself! 


Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

I have a certain emotional connection with that Johnny Star 7 Inch. Treated myself to it after handing in my bachelor thesis which has been a carousel ride for itself. Thanks again to Norm who was willing to let go of his spare. 


Q: How do you dig for new music?

I had phases were a spend a lot of time on Discogs but also love hitting up shops and flea markets especially while being on holidays and just going through everything that is there. Always looking for things that I haven’t seen before hoping it will either deliver a mood or make you want to dance. 


Q: One record you will never let go, one that doesn’t want to leave your waitlist and one guilty pleasure?

I will never let go of my copy of Yola Polastri’s Discoteque LP. Caminado Bajo El Sol is one of my all-time favs that pushes all the right buttons. 

One record that doesn’t want to leave my wantlist is the Spiegel B – Cool Down single. Didn’t pull the trigger the last time a copy popped up. Hit me up if you are willing to let yours go! 

One big guilty pleasure must be the whole Mini Stars series on Dino Music. They feature popular dance music tracks mostly from the 80s but with German lyrics sang by kids for kids. Please check out Jacqueline - Ferien Auf Dem Ponyhof which is a version of Jason Donovan’s Sealed With A Kiss to get an idea of what I am talking about. Too many great tracks to list here but if you understand German these will definitely put a smile on your face! 


Q: Music bonds people. Any djs/shops/etc.. you would like to shout out?

Sure thing! Very happy to have many passionate music lovers in my close circle. First of all William who encouraged me to record my first mix ever, Sandra (Frinda Di Lanco) and Henna Stein for giving me Italian lessons, the two Balearic Bananas Marvin und Phil, Dangerous Dave who’s is probably the most underrated DJ in Berlin (book him!), Los Chavales from Radio Relativa. I am sure I forgot some, but you know who you are! <3

After a prolonged break, our podcast is back with the long-awaited 150 episode! Our special guest co-founded @beachfreaksrecords and has one of the deepest collections of obscure vinyl from the 1970s and 1980s in Europe. His passion turned into one of my fave compilations this year, Club Meduse on Spacetalk, 13 hazy, soft-focus and life-affirming cuts that you would have heard at resort discos in the mid-to-late 1980s. His last mix dated 2015, so we’re here to listen something really special. Turn on your heaters as we’re headed down south one last time this year. Lush, humid jungles, red emeralds and purple sunsets. The Balearic Islands, the Côte D’Azur, the Greek Cyclades, Africa, Japan, the Brazilian rainforest and a quick dance in Miami. Such is the case with Good Block, this mischievous London unit whose portfolio of musical shenanigans increases in quantity as much as it grows in quality, amounting to a solid body of work of which this episode of Gop Cast is another stellar chapter. One that, in their own words is "a bit deeper for us (ambient/ slo-mo/chug) but we really enjoyed doing this one. It features a few new productions from us and some recent finds old and contemporary."
