Q: Thanks for your contribution to our mix series, how did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the eventual result?

A: Thank you for the invite! I usually prepare for a mix with 4-5 songs that i am really feeling at the moment and then try to build a mood around it. So this mix turned out to be a journey from jazz/fusion to ambient to balearic boogie with some obscurities in between – mostly japanese..

Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

A: Definitely the yuri harada record. Its a yasuaki shimizu produced enka record. I was introduced to this record several years ago while in tokyo by austin who runs the incidental music label and the tone poem record store in portland. I was instantly blown away by that song! obvioulsy that record was impossible to get a hold of then. I assume since then some deadstock has appeared and i was able to get myself a copy via discogs.

Q: How do you dig for new music, and/or what kind of things arouse your interest in music?

A: These days mostly by listening to mixes and radio shows and the occasional visit in my local record store.
It can be really hard to describe what it is, one is looking for in music. Also, these things change over time. I would say “the unknown” and “the unexpected”, records that take you to places your mind has not been to before.

Q: One record you will never let go, and one that doesn’t want to leave your wantlist?

A: I moved flat recently and had to get rid of a lot of records which was not an easy thing. Now i don't plan to let go of any more records :)	
A record that doesn't want to leave my wantlist – probably some super rare italian library record or pretty much any tom wolgers release related record.

Q: Music bonds people. Any djs/projects/shops/etc.. you would like to shout out?

I want to give a shout out to M. August. Every single mix he does is a world of its own and an amazing musical journey from start to finish. You can find his mixes on soundcloud.
The before-mentioned Tone Poem record store is always a great source of inspiration! 
Also keep your eyes peeled for the next couple releases on our reissue label Edition Hawara later this year!

For the 136th guestmix in our AstroFM series, Cologne-based selector Earl Orlog comes through with - what he calls - a fever dream of a dancefloor. Beguiling flutes, buzzing sitar drones and undefinable psychedelic noises fill the imaginary room with danceable contradictions. Sounds like a party we would absolutely vibe to.

"Square Pegs & Round Holes" is a musical journey just under 2 hours in duration. It's stops are at private pressed French outsider folk, obscure trance with Dick Dale guitar licks, echo-drenched Lofotian postpunk, some Thai comedian going full throttle digi-Belafonte, Italian goth-dub, Ecuadorian Dance Music (EDM) played by a strikingly good-humored Bolivian folklore ensemble, beautifully touching Nigerian expat-Soukous, a song about a man who paid his dues in form of an instrumental reggae cover version and many more tunes from all around the planet...

He took care of the first hour with a beautiful mix of laid back and psychedelic folk, rock and pop that he dubbed 'Baked Man'. We followed his lead for the second hour and it turned out to be a great show.

NTS Radio Episode 5 with guest Captain Starlight (3/12/2018)

Marco Gegenheimer and Daniel Baughman started Magic Teapot along with Jens Ingelstedt in 2017, relentlessly searching for hidden sounds from all over the world, paired with nutty video snippets through their Instagram account. Currently they have stopped as a record shop (due to lack of time), as they’re both busy with individual projects. Daniel is A&R at Hivern Discs and a booker at Barcelona's newest Audiophile listening bar, Nica. Marco is nowadays focusing on MLiR’s debut album and has several EP’s lined up this year on Studio Barnhus and Local Talk, to mention a few. In a near future, Magic Teapot Records will become a record label, but until then you can catch them playing at Dekmantel Selectors on the 23rd of August. Dani and Marco recorded this mix exploring breezing new age, magic downtempo, amateurish boogie and experimental disco. A phenomenal journey!
