Kadef Abgi came together in a serendipitous way. Devin Brahja Waldman was walking up St. Laurent borough in Montreal when he heard an otherworldly voice emanating from the venue Divan Orange. He walked in and listened to the singer on stage. When he was done, Devin walked over to him. After a short exchange about playing a house show in a couple of days, Ziad Qoulaii told Devin that he was available for all his projects. Shortly thereafter, Devin and Ziad met up at Mathieu Pelletier-Gagnon’s studio with Anas Jellouf and Hamza Lahmadi. Later on, Anas Hejam, Vicky Mettler and guitarist Sam Shalabi (Shalabi Effect, The Dwarfs Of East Agouza, Karkhana, Land Of Kush…) joined.

The music materialized in a natural, collectively improvised way, without any compositions or ideas discussed beforehand - and without second takes. From there, Waldman began editing and mixing. Ala Dehghan painted the album’s great artwork.

A single composer’s imagination would not have produced Diva Of Deva Loka as it is music created from a collective consciousness unfolding in real time. The album has its roots in each musician’s  sonic experience: this includes Arabic music —including most notably Moroccan Gnawa— as well as rock ‘n‘ roll, jazz and the avant-garde. 

Devin Brahja Waldman is a New York saxophonist, drummer, synthesizer player and composer. He has performed with Patti Smith, Thurston Moore, Lydia Lunch along many other artists. He has also accompanied his aunt, the poet Anne Waldman, since the age of ten. He leads a NYC/Montreal-based band, B R A H J A, performs in Heroes Are Gang Leaders and is a member of Artists For A Free World Marching Band. Along with Anne Waldman and his cousin Ambrose Bye, Waldman co-directs Fast Speaking Music—a still-active music and poetry label which has released the works of Amiri Baraka, Meredith Monk, CA Conrad, and many others.

My Life in the Bush of Ghosts is a studio album by Brian Eno and David Byrne, released in February 1981. It was Byrne's first album without his band Talking Heads. The album integrates sampled vocals and found sounds, African and Middle Eastern rhythms, and electronic music techniques. It was recorded before Eno and Byrne's work on Talking Heads' 1980 album Remain in Light, but problems clearing samples delayed its release by several months.The extensive sampling on My Life is considered innovative, though its influence on later sample-based music genres is debated.Eno and Byrne first worked together on More Songs About Buildings and Food, the 1978 album by Byrne's band Talking Heads. My Life in the Bush of Ghosts was primarily recorded during a break between the Talking Heads albums Fear of Music (1979) and Remain in Light (1980), both produced by Eno. Eno had also recently recorded Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics with Jon Hassell, who intended to collaborate with Eno and Byrne on the album, but could not afford to fly to California for the recording sessions. Upon hearing the tapes, Hassell felt "outraged" at what he felt was an appropriation of his music.Eno described My Life as a "vision of a psychedelic Africa". Rather than conventional pop or rock singing, most of the vocals are sampled from other sources, such as commercial recordings of Arabic singers, radio disc jockeys, and an exorcist. Musicians had previously used similar sampling techniques, but, according to Guardian writer Dave Simpson, sampling had never before been used "to such cataclysmic effect". In 2001, Eno cited Holger Czukay's experiments with dictaphones and shortwave radios as earlier examples of sampling. He felt that the "difference was, I suppose, that I decided to make [sampling] the lead vocal".The release was delayed while legal rights were sought for the large number of samples used on the album.A sample of an evangelist Kathryn Kuhlman performing an exorcism intended for "The Jezebel Spirit" was refused by her estate as they objected to the context it was to be used in.The album title is derived from Amos Tutuola's 1954 novel My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. According to Byrne's 2006 liner notes, neither he nor Eno had read the novel, but they felt the title "seemed to encapsulate what this record was about".Soon after the album was released, the Islamic Council of Great Britain objected to the use of samples of Qur'anic recital in the track "Qu'ran", considering it blasphemy. Byrne and Eno removed the track from later pressings. In 2006, Byrne said:We thought, "Okay, in deference to somebody's religion, we'll take it off." You could probably argue for and against monkeying with something like that. But I think we were certainly feeling very cautious about this whole thing. We made a big effort to try and clear all the voices, and make sure everybody was okay with everything ... So I think in that sense we reacted maybe with more caution than we had to.Two tracks in the album, "Regiment" and "The Carrier", sampled the voice of Lebanese singer Dunya Younes (credited in the album as Dunya Yunis). Although Byrne and Eno took care to clear it with the label that released the album they took the sample from and also paid for the sampling, Dunya Younes had no idea that her voice was used and only found out in 2017. Both songs were taken down from streaming sites after a family representative contacted the duo a year later, and the songs were later reinstated when the issue was settled amicably out of court.This brand new edition includes all 11 original tracks plus 8 of the 2006 expanded issue and even more,demos,edits,outtakes,the original songs that used as samples,remixes, interview & more

Joey Anderson remains committed to the deep rooted sensibilities of House music, it's very much in his DNA - drawing upon influences from the underground of New York city. Over the years he has released some of the most influential records in the genre - EP's on the likes of Latency, Syncrophone Recordings and Deconstruct - albums on the likes of Dekmantel and Avenue 66.

This month marks the release of a new album on Deeptrax.

His sound has always been cemented in a deep, philosophical energy. It's music as much for listening, ambience and mood as it is the dancefloor.

Over the years his music has gone on to reach critical acclaim and gained international recognition but it is his home city and the origins of the musical culture from which he draws strength, not the hype or social media circus.

Not one to dabble in eccentricities his music is stripped back, utilising uniquely programmed machinery to create delicate textures and weird dusty tones which often lead to a unique transcendence.

Joey is an artist we've been keen to feature in this series for a long time now and the result is just as special as we could have imagined...

This is in honor and memory of Mario Julian Benassi, who passed away by the hands of the Yuba River on June 26 2018. Mario is a benevolent angel being of love and light who has blessed us all with his presence here on Earth.
