For entry number 8 in the PPRZ Podcast series, we have a mix from Vancouver's @agimat_iha

IHA (Acceleration/NAGA) is a DJ and producer born out of lockdown. Their sets and production explore the limits of odd rhythms, machinistic frequencies, and leftfield breaks. As a core member of the Acceleration Radio collective, they are committed to creating community and gathering spaces through audiovisual presentations, airing weekly on the FM. 

Other highlights of 2022 include: a Media Arts Committee residency, an Active Passive live PA set, their first festival set at Aqua Lucidity, amongst a number of self-releases, and mixes out on various podcasts and radio shows (Obskur Techno, PHTM, Kopi Records, Art of Beatz).

This mix for PPRZ narrates an unsympathetic and harsh winter, mixing dystopia with the otherworld through a collection of dub, disjointed DNB/techno, unusual glitches and textures, and wistful ambient tones.

This application mix goes out to the warmth of the summer, to those early mornings where you've stayed up too late and you're sitting on the floor giggling from lack of sleep, to love, to those strong friendships where you can be yourself, to the long reflective car rides where your butt gets numb, to those early mornings sipping coffee planning your day.

Future Forest holds a special place in my heart and whenever it's time to make an application mix for this festival I can't help but lean in a different direction than the usual themes that I can be known for. This mix is certainly not full of crazy bangers or ripping bass lines but a mix that comes from the heart and the emotions that come up when I think of this festival and what it means to me. 

Here's to YOU and the warm fuzzy feelings you get in those rare moments of your life... treasure them, hold them tight.

FF Emotional 2024 APPLICATION

As I child, I was so moved but the energy of the vocals and the empowering message in The Power,  that I felt called to make a remix.

As time alignments work, I had a session booked with Vekked (a world champion turntablist) over to the Playhouse where we were planning on collaborating on something and after pulling up my remix and dropping him a few samples, he loading them up and stole the show - as he does.

Kudos LoKey is a Toronto based Producer/DJ, Multi-instrumentist and studio owner of Playhouse Studio. Known for his broad musical vocabulary and his unique Global Psychedelic Bass sound, mixing diverse stylings from Cumbia to Deep Dubstep, Hip Hop to House and Glitch to Downtempo while remaining true his first love, the Funk. With his bass guitar Snappy has performed on stages and festivals all over the continent with House of David Gang, Chameleon Project and Treasa Levasseur. And now summing all of his skills as an engineer, producer, performer, song writer and deep music lover, fusing lush soundscape textures with thick syncopated rhythms, live instruments, field recordings and treated samples.

As if George Clinton had a baby with Daniel Lanois with Carl Sagan was the godfather and Tipper was the babysitter  -  Kudos LoKey has been is born.
