Ok, im all in on this one. It sucked the life out of my computer at times. Had to render some bits and bobs here and there to save on the cpu.
Used a lot of automation and abused the internal Fx. Can never get the same sound twice in some cases, so this version of the song is one of a kind.

So you're at a party, right, and one guy wants to play trance, and the other guy wants to play hip hop and you just wish they'd stop arguing and get on with it.

Effects: lots of Limiters, most things have Compressor, EQ8, some Glue Compressors, a few Hybrid Reverbs and Reverbs, AutoFilter for the risers, Shaper to turn an arp into hi hats with LFOs. But most of the effects are in GR-8 and I made a lot of use of the internal distortion, EQ, reverb and chorus.

Submitted for One Synth Challenge #151 in September 2021 featuring "GR-8" by Phuturetone.

I decided to create a track in my usual style (a kinda synthwave with 70's flavour) as this instrument is very useful for it.

GR-8 is an all around VA synth with classic features and effects section. It is inspired by 80's Roland's synths for sure, particularly it looks like an improved version of PG-8X (a freeware emulation of JX-8P). The oscillator section is pretty standard, it would be great to see a waveforms from Alpha Juno like it was on a previous Phuturetone synths. The filter is very analog'ish, it loses bass when resonance turned up. The modulation section is kinda limited but has some useful tweaks. The voice mode section is very useful too (finally, an option to tune individual notes in a chord). The effects section is always a good bonus in freeware synth. It extends the potential number of timbres and sometimes can lead to unexpected results (I still remember effects on Synth1 that can make unexpectedly crazy sounds). A possibility to rearrange the order of effects in a chain would be a great feature. And it also would be great to have a more extreme distortion algorithm.

25 instances of GR-8 were used to create a track. All sounds from init patch. Mostly internal effects were used, except a few delay/reverb plugins. Every instrument contains one instance of GR-8, including drums.

This is my contribution for the "One synth challenge" with the softsynth plugin "GR8". All sounds are made with 16 instances of GR 8 in Cubase Elements. Composed, mixed by me and released here in September 2021.

Created for OSC 151 using 31 instances of the GR-8 synth by Phuturetone for all sounds. DL enabled for WAV.

The synth has a classic sound, with a modern FX section, so I wanted to bridge the old school vibes with some new school sound and production. I always liked those darker drum and bass tunes, and wanted to push the sound design to see what it could do.

Harmonica Jim waits for lunch, quietly anticipating eating the delicious sandwich sitting on the table before him. The hour draws near. He begins unwrapping the sandwich. In the distance, he hears a rider approaching. He frowns.

As the clock strikes 12, a scruffy stranger arrives on a tall horse. He dismounts and approaches Harmonica Jim's table, brushing off the dust of the trail. "I've been riding nonstop since last night," he says. "Spare a cup of water and a bite to eat?"

"You're welcome to draw some water from the well," Harmonica Jim replies, "but I only have the one sandwich."

The stranger licks his lips dryly, eyeing the sandwich. "Any chance you could, uh, make another?"

"Fresh out of meat."

"A slice of bread, then?"

"Fresh out of bread, too."

The two stare for a minute, sizing each other up.

"Could ya split the sandwich then?" asks the stranger.

Jim squints. "This sandwich isn't big enough for the two of us, friend."

The stranger squints back. "I ain't your friend, buddy."

"I'm not your buddy, stranger. Are we going to have a problem here?"

"We might just."
