Alex Rossi is back with a timeless album (released on Kwaidan Records in partnership with agnès b.), all about his Italian origins, from Lucio Battisti to Pino d'Angio, and tinted with his Italo-Disco fetish. Entitled "Domani è un'altra notte", it will be released during the first days of the Indian Summer, and was produced by "La Famiglia", aka his friends Arnaud Pilard and Romain Guerret (Dondolo, Aline). 
Six years after "L'ultima canzone" (released on Born Bad), Alex Rossi, "the most Italian of French singers" was not about to sit on his laurels. 
"Tutto va bene quando facciamo l’amore", which was released in June and has been setting dancefloors on fire ever since, is given the remix treatement in these dog days of summer, by no less than Julien Barthe (Plaisir de France), Jabberwocky, Lifelike and Yuksek. 
Summer is only getting started, and the fire will keep raging across clubs the world over... 
 
Yuksek: 
"I generally find it hard to remix a song that I know and like, but in this case, the Italo disco vibe was quite attractive and fun for me to work with, because it's  bit outside of my comfort zone. My latest productions are more influenced by classic late-70s tropical disco, so I got a good headstart!" 
Jabberwocky: 
"We fell in love with the original track from the get-go. It works with the aesthetic of our latest tracks. It's been a blast to keep Alex Rossi's italo disco summer with our remix!"

Autant de remixes taillés pour le dance-floor et provoquer l’extase des corps et des sens, si possible à plusieurs. L’été n’en finit pas avec Alex Rossi.

« Généralement j’ai du mal à remixer un morceau que je connais et que j’aime mais dans ce cas le parti-pris Italo disco était assez évident et plaisant pour moi car ce n’est pas vraiment ma zone de confort. Mes dernières productions sont plus influencés par les classiques disco/tropical fin 70, j’ai gagné une bonne dizaine d’années :) » 
Jabberwocky: 
Nous sommes tombés amoureux du morceau original dès la première écoute, son esthétique correspond à nos inspirations du moment sur nos derniers titres. C’est donc un plaisir de prolonger l’été italo disco d’Alex Rossi avec notre remix !

I just found out my remix of Tevo Howard's "Boing Pop" has been included - without my approval - on the Hed Kandi Beach House 2014 compilation. I usually feel honoured when my music is selected for these types of things but I mean Hed Kandi is this total horror-conglomerate that uses retarded imagery drawn straight from the sexual fantasies of horny twelve year old boys to pimp a very sad idea of house music to the masses, so this time I just feel depressed. What's worse is that the owner of Rebirth (the label who originally released my remix) edited the track - again without my approval - into something shorter and clumsier, completely fucking up the flow of the music. Please don't support this bullshit - if you like the tune, you can now download it (the real version) from my Soundcloud page, free of charge. Enjoy!

Nobody knew too much about Krywald & Farrer when their email landed in our Gmail accounts late earlier this month. They’ve earned their stripes, yes. Their residencies at a number of London’s clubs tell us that story. But today’s debut tells us that they clearly just get a kick out of smushing genres together.

“The People’s Asafo” sees warm house textures flirt with an infusion of Ghanaian beatwork for eight minutes. A coaxing leg-shaker if there ever was one. It arrives on March 30th (via Silver Bear Recordings) and backed by B-side “He’s The Chief” which continues the afrocentric theme with gusto.

Up next on Phonica Premieres is a seriously groovy cut from International Soleil Band off the new Soundway 12".  Ta Lassa is an '80s West African Disco crossover from the International Soleil band straight outta Guinea. Composed by Gnamakoron Sidi Diabaté it was originally featured on an album released in 1983 by French Warners offshoot WAM (West African Music) - a short lived label that recorded about 20 releases of West African music released in France. Also Featuring Mory Djely Kouyate this track was a staple of the 22 band's repertoire in the 1970s (in which many of the ISB played) - famous for their recordings on the legendary state-run Editions Syliphone label. We've decided to premiere the extended (DJ friendly) Hide & Smile edit on the A side. There's throbbing bass and keyboard interplay punctuated by classic Guinee guitar lines, metronomic drumming and 80s synth sweeps eventually drops into a more recognisable Guinean vocal outing. In the pivotal period before the end of Apartheid, the fluff of bubblegum was starting to boil over into what later became the tougher township-centric sounds of kwaito. Amidst this volatile and transitional climate a mysterious kid named Eddie Magwaza started making moves in the studio, creating music for a vibrant street dance style that was blowing up in SA, called pantsula. At the time, other groups were also starting to create faster and more instrumental dance music which suited this agile style of dancing, but on this album Magwaza managed to channel the cosmic chant of italo and the sweaty energy of early house music in a unique and peerless way that has captured the ears and feet of DJs and dancers around the world many years later.

Magwaza, who wasn't even 20 when he made this album, had the help of seasoned studio whizzes Lucky Matante & Jan Smit with programming, sequencing and engineering, and their studio mastery really takes flight on the dub version of the title cut which has made the album so desirable in the last few years. Sadly Magwaza was shot and killed shortly after the release of the album and it stands as the last testament to his brilliant vision.

Remastered and pressed on a loud 12" Mashisa is once again available to spread the pantsula spirit to dancing bodies everywhere. Artwork by Jessica Greene.
