Gleich nach den ersten Tönen wird es ein paar Grad wärmer!
Umso mehr, da man gemächlich ins Schaukeln kommt und sich in Gedanken schon in Jamaica in ner Hängematte am Strand wähnt. Aber bald wird man von einer indischen Sitar, einer Geige die an den weiten Balkan erinnert, indigenen Klängen und einer mystischen Stimme umworben die einem magisch anzieht - und schwupps - schon geht die Reise weiter.  Bald merkt man, dass es hier eh gar keine Grenzen oder sowas wie Länder gibt. Man schwebt, leicht, in einem Schwarm bunter Paradiesvögel und Raumschiffen, Seite an Seite mit fremden hochgewachsenen Wesen durch tropische Gefilde. Pillen gegen Traurigkeit wünschen sich in einer solchen Sound-Collage nur hoffnungslose Hypochonder. Allmählich wird es dann auch clubiger und ein bisschen schneller.  Auch hierfür hat es Platz in diesen 92 abwechslungsreichen und bunten Minuten, welche uns @barbarella_dd hier beschert.

A Scott Grooves set is always an education in form. The Detroit born DJ was among the key players invited by Soul Clap to launch their fabric album earlier in the year. While the guys shared a snippet of this set as part of their own highlights from the night on Rinse FM shortly after the do, we wanted to release a longer excerpt. It just shows of Grooves masterful selecting style perfectly - his ability to switch deftly between percussive funk, electro and techno. We feel everyone should have a chance to experience it.

@nochi ~ Costa Rica.

Nochi is a passionate ethnomusicologist who gifts ecos del mundo with a special search and compilation process that led to a hybrid fusion of vinyl gathered from his trips to Peru, Chile and Argentina with some of the digital works of artists he admires.

Ranging from the Calypso style of Caribbean Costa Rica like Walter Ferguson, Lenki, Leche de Coco and others; to Afro, Latin and Brazilian rhythms, this mixtape can be well categorized as an eclectic and even experimental storytelling style to fly by different textures and metrics.

Backstory: We met Nochi in Purranque, Chile, on the way to @festivalnomade. A laid-back guy who was getting his morning coffee before our group took the last bus to beautiful Manquemapu, land of The Andean Condor and home of the Huilliche indigenous community. After exchanging hellos, we noticed we knew each other’s projects and then, the musical adventure and friendship began.

The Huilliche (which means people of the south in the Mapuche-language Mapudungun) are aboriginal people and the southern branch of the Mapuche ethnic group. The Huilliche differ from the Mapuche in some elements including their language. They do speak a version of Mapudungun with some differences in pronunciation and vocabulary, which is called Chesungun.

Originally they populated the valley of the Toltén River until the Reloncaví Fiord and especially around today's cities Osorno, Llanquihue and Valdivia. After the Spanish "Conquista", and even stronger through the immigration in the midst of the 19th century their population was heavily reduced. 

In contrast to their sister Nation, the Mapuche, they developed mainly agriculture and livestock breeding. Predominantly they grew corn and potatoes, while Guanacos and Huemules (a type of deer) served for meat, coat and wool processing. 

It is estimated that around the 15th century the bigger part of the Huilliche settled in the northern to middle part of Chiloe, where they lived from fishing and collection of shellfish. 

Today the Huilliche people do live in the coastal region of Mapu Lahual / Caleta Condor and on the Chiloe Archipelago, where they still pursue the activities they did centuries ago: fishing, collecting shellfish, cattle farming and forestry. The latter they do with dead Alerce trees.

Archaeological evidence from prehistoric times suggests that the Earth was once viewed as a living, female being. Ancient texts and mythologies support the idea of a female deity associated with the earth and all life. The Phyrigian Earth Mother Kybele was one such figure among many and represented the earth, mountains, caverns, and all nature, the birth of humanity, the universe and everything in it. 

Inspired by this timeless and universal vision, this project is dedicated to featuring and celebrating the bounty and beauty of the creative works of women in music through special podcasts, original releases, and mixtapes curated by women producers, DJs, and musicians of a wide range of genres from around the world. 

In addition to highlighting the works of women in music, Kybele develops opportunities for broader inclusion of and greater collaboration among emerging and established artists  of all backgrounds through the "Friends of Kybele" series.
