Around 2000 in Leipzig, Germany: Hypezig, gentrification and techno capitalism was in the distant future.

At that time we enthusiastically experienced Resom's first DJ sets in the basement of Giro e.V. in Connewitz, a district of Leipzig where Connwax was also founded. As member of the former Homo Elektrik collective in Leipzig as well as her current home base at ://about blank and Palomabar in Berlin, the avid vinyl collector further developed her style to an expression of organic diversity, emotional spaces and atmospheric energy. Besides, she has been actively engaged in the social and cultural side of the music scene curating the multifaceted conceptual event „The Amplified Kitchen“ in addition to her work for the last ten years teaching DJ workshops for women and regular radio show “Complex” at refugeworldwide.com.

It's all about resonance, feedback, depth, transparency and honesty, connection and shadows. We are happy to share Resom's driving exploration of contemporary techno!

With her mixing prowess, the mix twists between rolling drum workouts, acid laced cuts, deep and moody techno and percussive monsters. Resom blends the elements together into a striking and powerful podcast.

For our fifth entry in the PPRZ Podcast series, we have a mix from Ohio's @plural

James Johnson Jr AKA Kukri AKA Plural is one exceptionally talented electronic music producer, composer and DJ known across the world for his hard techno sound. His calm demeanour belies the massive amounts of energy he creates in his highly technical DJ sets, and the ethereal beauty of his live performances with many top-flight DJs swearing by his output, dropping his tracks relentlessly throughout their sets.

James grew up in the 80's listening mostly to soul, RnB and hip-hop. He knew he wanted to follow a musical path, but because he couldn't rap or sing and was more interested in the beats he decided to become a DJ. His early inspiration came from amazing artists like Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, Herbie Handcock and Public Enemy. Once he started getting fully into becoming a DJ and discovering so many more styles of music out there, especially techno, it was Jeff Mills, Claude Young, DJ Stingray and The Horrorist to name a few that held his awe.

His performance history started in 95' at clothing store Stigmata where some local DJs played and began to show him the ropes, becoming good friends and going on to throw parties all around his home city. He now plays regularly at all the tops clubs all over the world.

He started making music around 98' buying synths and drum machines, and over the years his studio set up has constantly evolved becoming a myriad of mechanical hardware in order to make some fire to make the people move. For James there is no better feeling.  His releases appear on many amazing imprints including Metroplex, Dobox, Audio Textures and Panel Trax, and garnered him the acclaim of dance music's elite, making him a much sought after recording artist and remixing engineer counting Alan Oldham, Chance McDermott and D'Funk as being able testify to him mangling their material to extreme techno perfection. James is also the founder of Ditekt Records, a label that's a vehicle for him to push into more exploratory and experimental sounds and for his fellow colleagues and favourite artists to remix his material.

BIO:

Josef Gaard is a project focused on music as a conduit. Originally based in the Seattle area and now living in Berlin, he has been sharing his salient sound through productions and performances for years. With recent releases on Total Black and Accents, he continues to break through with a sensibility that is entirely his own.

Just recently THNTS has discovered electronic music, before he was mostly interested in Hardcore, Black- and Doom-metal. 
A record collector and enthusiast he especially appreciated the created atmosphere. Soon he began to find the similarities in atmosphere and sound also in experimental kinds of techno.His DJ-sets resemble this development: sometimes driving, sometimes dreamy, but always telling a tale. 
After 1,5 years of involvement in the apathy crew he was a founding member of the new project ESCH which was born in the beginning of 2016.

Lovers of new wave and dark synth pop, the twins Fabrizio and Marco, worldiwide known as D'Arcangelo started their musical journey back in 1992 when they met the likeminded Max Durante and formed Automatic Sound Unlimited, project premiered with the Roman's Attak EP and lasted two years before it dissolved.

Two years later the twins would stake their claim with a self-titled EP on Rephlex, a label partially owned by a hero and heavy influence, Richard D. James aka Aphex Twin.
The duo generally set up an opposition between brattish squalls of random-generated, jackhammer techno and a more dark ambient tendency, looming like the shadows of gathering storm clouds. With their appreciation of noisy synths, neo-electro, minimal techno and other flavors of underground dance music, D'Arcangelo fit perfectly with the label's idea of a "braindance" movement and the dislocated dance music that defined it. Another EP for Rephlex and half of a split 7" on the Suction label appeared before the debut full-length, "Shipwreck", arrived in 1999. A bit less noisy were 2002's second full-length for Rephlex, "Broken Toys' Corner", and that year's remix EP for White Leather, "Corner". They appeared on Rephlex's limited-edition soundtrack to the video game Manhunt in 2004, then returned to their slow pace by waiting till 2006 for their next release, the "Pro 188 EP". With the duo back on a roll, the full-length "Eksel" landed in 2007 and continued releasing on infamous Rephlex till the end of its days.
After their release "Cradle And Go!” on 030303 Records in 2010 and closing of Rephlex, Fabrizio and Marco rises to the surface again in 2015 with “Periscope EP” on Analogical Force, but not necessarily meaning a back-to-roots approach. Instead, it seems to be a step forward in their creative process and a deep dive into their sound. ”Periscope EP” contains new material of complex electronic music: avant rhythms, emotive idm with distinctive acid flashes, plus a surprising array of misty landscapes leading to an extremely engaging myriad of expressive images and shapes. 

A newfound interest around Italian duo Fabrizio and Marco D'Arcangelo has resulted also in releases like the one on The Kelly Twins' Happy Skull and a new one for Solvent and Lowfish's Suction based out of Toronto, who at first reissued D’Arcangelo’s self-titled debut EP for Rephlex in 2017 and in 2018 released "II", considered as "an imaginary sequel to the duo's classic 1996 debut EP on Aphex Twin's legendary, now-defunct Rephlex Records", made of industrial edged electronica which calls to mind early Autechre, drum 'n' bass and aesthetics of an even earlier period, namely the '80s.
