This piece started with the string rise section, I then built the piano chords and changes around that. I used to perform this piece a with the band Dead Dux, usually accompanied with the vocals and lyrics of singer, Tricky Murphy.

브람스는 현악 6중주를 단 2개만 작곡했다. 브람스는 현악 6중주를 통해서 하이든, 베토벤, 슈베르트에 대한 존경심을 표현하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 브람스 이전에는 거의 작곡되지 않았던 악기 편성을 통해서 새로운 화성적인 표현의 영역을 확장했다. 실내악적인 은밀함과 매력을 지닌 이 현악 6중주는 최후의 낭만주의 ‘문’을 열었다. 

“우리는 결코 완벽함에서 멀지 않다. 탈리히 사중주단은 가장 뛰어난 음악성을 지닌 단체로서, 다시 한번, 극도의 섬세함과 지성을 바탕으로 좀처럼 들을 수 없는 특별한 해석을 들려준다.”(디아파종)

이 하이든의 음반에서 각 악장의 길이는 하나의 도전이다. 일곱 개의 서로 다른 악장이 모두 느린 이 작품을 들으면서 이 일곱 개의 악장이 그저 반복에 불과하다고 느끼는 것을 어떤 식으로든지 간에 피할 수 있어야만 해석에 성공하는 것이다. 현악 사중주 편성의 네 개의 악기를 위한 작품이지만 거의 교향곡적인 스케일을 지니고 있는 이 작품은 19세기 초반의 작곡가에게서는 거의 찾아보기 힘든 거대한 전망을 보여준다. 
“탈리히 현악 사중주단의 극도로 섬세한 음향은 하이든의 이 위대한 악보 위에는 쓰여 있지 않은 텍스트를 드러내는 동시에 작품을 침묵으로 되돌린다. 각각의 음들은 마치 하나의 자음과 모음처럼 들리며, 동시에 탈리히 현악 사중주단에 의해서 연주되는 음들은 극도의 평온함의 자연스러운 무게처럼 다가온다.” (디아파종)

요한 벤젤 칼리보다(1801-1866)의 작품들의 이번 녹음은 음반사에 기록될 만한 사건이다. 이 음반에 수록된 세 곡의 현악 사중주들은 모차르트 이후의 현악 사중주의 창조적인 발전을 보여주는 예이다. 이 곡들은 제1바이올린이 다른 세 개의 현악기로부터 서서히 독립되어가는 과정을 보여주는데 아름답고, 풍성한 선율과 강렬한 리듬이 듣는 이를 꼼짝하지 못하게 만든다.”

“탈리히 현악 사중주단의 유머감각은 듣는 이를 상기시키는 이 작품에 우아한 풍자의 숨결을 불어넣는데 성공하고 있다. 칼리보다의 현악 사중주들은 모차르트적인 ‘가벼움’의 연속성에 있는, 반드시 발견되어야만, 들어보아야만 하는 작품들이다.” (르 몽드 드 라 뮈지크)

탈리히 현악 사중주단은 쇼스타코비치에 관한 또 하나의 명반을 만들어냈다. 이들은 쇼스타코비치의 음울한 작품들을 날카로운 시선으로 읽어냈다. 현악 사중주와 피아노를 위한 오중주는 듣는 이의 정신을 사로 잡으면서도 몽롱한 분위기를 지니고 있다. 이들의 연주는 이 작품의 본질을 드러내는 사운드로, 곡의 면면을 잘 드러내고 있다. 듣는 이를 거의 환각에 사로잡히게 하는 지경의 탈리히 현악 사중주단의 연주는 아무도 예상치 못한 4차원의 환상 여행을 떠나게 해 준다. 

“쇼스타코비치의 현악 사중주 8번의 녹음을 통해서 탈리히 현악 사중주단은 음반사에 새로운 사건을 만들어 냈다. 탈리히 현악 사중주단의 연주는 우리를 마치 블랙홀 속으로 빠져들게 하는 듯하며, 이들이 우리를 안내하는 최종 목적지는 음악으로 인해 인도되는 어둠 속에서 완전히 해체되는 듯한 강렬한 감흥이다.” (클라시카)

쇼스타코비치, 피아노 5중주, G단조, op.57 (스케르초)

'42' is a piece based on a story from Douglas Adam's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", in which a computer 'Deep Thought' attempts to find the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. In the piece, the computer is calculating before finally revealing the answer. 101010 is binary for 42.

Transcender une œuvre qu’il joue depuis l’adolescence, telle a été l’ambition d’Aldo Ciccolini, 86 ans, l’un de nos plus grands pianistes, sur ce disque La Dolce Volta. En retrouvant le « son de son enfance » sur les ivoires Bechstein, le virtuose offre un regard neuf sur ces sonates grâce à un jeu poétique sublimé par l’expérience d’une vie.

Je ne souffrirais nullement que vous surviviez à ces nouvelles improvisations à capella des plus absurdes et des plus inintéressantes. L'anglais y côtoie le français de façon fort peu honorable, la logique s'y fait fort rare et les mélodies aparoliques ne sont guère bien plus originales ou davantage agréables à l’oreille que les autres improvisations à cappella voulant se faire passer pour d'éventuelles futures chansons. Mon seul mérite est peut-être d'avoir créé ces affreux fichiers sans y avoir réfléchi auparavant et sans aucun cynisme — je ne sais donc absolument point pourquoi je viens d'écrire une description qui en est mâtinée, pour ne pas dire barbouillée...
Bonne journée, vive l'illogisme et vive l'optimisme !

Inside my heart

Creativity is not something that can be turned on and off like a tap . . . 
Art is a labour of love, a question of patience and concentration. To place demands on it, criteria, quotas, damages it, slowly kills it. Art, like nature, must be allowed to develop and to grow, in order to attain plenitude. Following this principle, La Dolce Volta prefers to privilege quality over quantity. Releases are limited to ten albums a year, but each of them is the fruit of in-depth work, and above all a special relationship between the soloist and the composer. The artists’ virtuosity is coupled with their ineffable and highly personal approach, a feeling that can only be expressed through music. 
And since jewels worthy of the name can only be offered in special cases, the albums La Dolce Volta releases are themselves works of art: each record cover is an original work of art; the digipack’s inner sleeve includes a booklet in four languages and an interview with the musician. A bandeau is wrapped around each album, on which is printed the name of the soloist, the name of the composer, and the work performed. 
For La Dolce Volta, music is not just a shrink-wrapped object for sale. Like all beautiful things in life, it must come to fruition naturally, the result of careful craftsmanship, and offered like an exquisite flower.
