Je suis Moussa Koita, artiste musicien-chanteur-auteur-compositeur-arrangeur, originaire de Bobo-Dioulasso au Burkina Faso, et résident à Bordeaux en France. Etant de sang "griot", j'ai été initié très tôt à la musique traditionnelle mandingue, au côté de mes parents, puis de Victor Démé. Je suis multi-instrumentiste, ce qui m'a permis d'accompagner de nombreux groupes aux influences diverses (Rivière Noire, Sam Mangwana, Abou Diarra, Pep's pour ne citer qu'eux)... Composant mes propres chansons depuis de nombreuses années, il était temps pour moi de sortir mon projet solo, aux confins de la tradition mandingue, du blues, du reggae, des rythmes latinos ou encore du rock, mon 1 er album solo "Ayé" est le fruit de ce métissage musical et culturel. Il me ressemble.

Maïa is a unique singer and flautist. 
From a French-Japanese background, she has clearly found her way towards a boundless musical self-expression, rooted in solid classical training and a unique rendition of her heritage. 
The audience can expect to be transported along the Paris-Tokyo axis to space and beyond.
 She describes her style as ELECTRO-ROOTS-POP-PUNK . 
Maïa sings using an unknown special throat technique from a small island in the South of Japan, mixing it with modern and electric sounds, but the flute is her first instrument. After studying classical and jazz, she quickly transformed the way she played as she started making her own music, improvising, singing with her flute and using it as percussion.
 

After much going back and forth between Paris and Tokyo, the teenager began her career in the Tokyo underground playing the saxophone with Japanese street band, accompanying dragqueens, dancers and musicians from all edges. she multiplied the tours and concerts throughout the archipelago, releasing albums produced "Kusamakura" a compilation of the new Japanese scene.
But this latest project, produced by the legendary Martin Meissonnier (who has worked with the likes of Fela Kuti, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page, Khaled and Manu Dibango) is something completely new.


The earthquake and the nuclear accident that hit Japan on March 11, 2011 marked a turning point in Maïa’s development as a musician. The man-made catastrophe and the destruction that followed pushed her to re-root herself deeply in the musical traditions of Japan, gathering the songs of fishermen, sailors, party songs from Fukushima which she calls as "Japanese bleus" and take them out to the wider world, in her own interpretation, while integrating also her compositions.

The album "KODAMA" got released in France UK and Japan in 2015.

 Backed by powerful musicians and a free-flowing instinct that transcends national borders, Maïa offers an extraordinarily broad melodic landscape where melancholy and madness ride over percussive grooves, trance-like dance tunes and stripped-down a cappella singing.

We are an independent record label and a music production house, dedicated to the traditional and contemporary music of Mali. We record, edit, package and distribute original music by Malian artists. Mieruba was established in the ancient city of Ségou in 2007 and we are still based here.

 As an independent label, we make original music productions available to the general public under our own brand name, be they audio recordings or video clips. We do this, because we consider it our responsibility to preserve and promote Mali’s rich cultural and musical heritage and make new artistic discoveries. Between 2010 and 2018, Mieruba issued a series of eight albums, as part of its project The Lost Maestros. Almost all of the music was recorded here in Ségou. We are running a number of projects, alongside The Lost Maestros; we will present these shortly. Mali, our country, has earned worldwide fame for its art, especially its high-quality musical productions. We are considered Africa’s premier musical exporter. But in spite of all this artistic wealth, most of Mali’s artists release their work on labels outside the country. This is the main reason why we found it necessary to create a label here and call it Mieruba. 

At the origin of it all was our desire to create high-quality work in close collaboration with the artists themselves. And it this passion that continues to fuel everything we do. All of us, whether it is the label’s founder, the paid and unpaid workers, the interns and everyone else who works with us in the production and distribution – we all get our energy from this love for music. This is what propels us forward. Our mission really is to put front and centre the kind of music that often gets ignored by the mainstream. In this sense, we are part of a counterculture, standing firm against the kind of musical standardisation you can hear all around you. Through its musical productions, Mieruba helps to safeguard musical diversity and promote musical democracy. We want to become the passageway, taking the music from the realm of unpaid craftsmanship, through emergence and into the professional sphere.
