2022 is a special year for me with a lot of up's and down's. While we are approaching the end of the year, I made this mixtage with some of my favourite tracks and with my recent experiments on genres fluid mixing style. 

Homage for Faithless with his God is a DJ. R.I.P for the legend.

Multi genre madness mix at Slimfest

LAWAAI is an Amsterdam-based DJ collective which champions non-binary and femme-identifying artists. We wanted to make some noise and create a space for more diversity in the Amsterdam music scene, by simply providing opportunities to let more femme-identifying or non-binary artists shine. So far, we’ve been doing this by organizing events at venues like Feed, Sexyland and Toekomstmuziek, and sharing this platform with a growing network of local femme-identifying and non-binary artists.

LAWAAI w/ LAN, INA & LENI - 29th June 2023

Camikazy Uzi is a vocal lyricist, producer, DJ, model and label owner from Paris, with Cameroonian and Ivorian heritage. She is super excited to LAWAAI’s radio show at Black Rhino Radio today. Empowering female and non-binary artists is what she does. She was drawn to music from a young age, using it as a medium to express her emotions and life experiences. Influenced by a diverse range of music, including artists like Biggy, The Fugees, Jeff Mills, Mr Oizo, and Miss Kittin, she embraced a deep connection to rhythm and mesmerizing vocals. In 2014, she relocated to Amsterdam to pursue her professional career. Starting as a producer in 2018, she later moved to Barcelona, where she released her self-produced single "Le Temps Sepa" (Time is Passing By). In 2020, she embarked on a DJ career, performing in various clubs and events in Amsterdam and Barcelona. Camikazy Uzi is known for her energetic presence and diverse music selection, spanning from Funky/Disco to Deep/Minimal/Tech House.

It was about 1 year ago cofounders - INA, LENI and LAN came up with the initiative of LAWAAI Collective to support femme identifying and nonbinary artists in Amsterdam. On 1st December last year, we launched the first LAWAAI event with a womens’ rights fundraiser at a local club Sexyland. We’re grateful for all the support from the events we organized so far. With the upcoming 1st LAWAAI anniversary, LENI and LAN put together another 2 hours set for Black Rhino Radio with tracks exclusively produced by female or nonbinary artists. It's a selection of house, Afro house,breaks, bass, and electro. We believe in the power of music to unite people and will continue to make some noise for the good cause.

Thanks for the invite from Relate Radio in Groningen. Together with Ina, Slaymobil, we did a three-hour LAWAAI Collective takeover. This was the 1 hour mix from me as LAN The Wireless, trying different bass savvy and high energy sounds from multiple genres. Another madness of traveling up and down.

To celebrate tomorrow International Women’s  Day, @LAWAAI.collective puts together a 2 hours radio show today with full FLINTA production. First hour is hosted by @LAN The Wireless, followed by the second hour from the guest DJ Arianne from @Women at work. Women at work is a DJ duo based in both London and Amsterdam. Bellow are some words from Arianne @Women at Work:

"Having the joy of working with LAWAAI in the past, I know that these women are doing incredible work pushing the boundaries within the music scene. It was a challenge to produce a mix which not only represented my own tastes, but also had a structural impact by using music predominantly from non-cis-male producers. I enjoyed this process though, as it resulted in one of my most conscientious sets to date. For me, equal representation is something that can only be measured or quantified to a certain point. While seeing more women, non-binary folk, and people of colour on line ups or in spaces is important, it is about creating a change that is not just a box ticking process. It's about people being seen for their music, their abilities, and themselves. It's about them feeling empowered in the spaces that they occupy.
I grew up in the male dominated underground scene which has not been an entirely negative experience but could sometimes feel exclusionary. Throughout my time listening to and engaging with music, people around me have had lengthy discussions about different genres (for which I do still love to get involved in). At times, these conversations would feel like a means for men to exert power by demonstrating their knowledge and expertise, causing me to take a step back. Recently, however, I have seen countless women and non-binary people push the boundaries of their sets, not sticking to one sphere of expertise, and instead bringing together similar elements of music across a range of styles. In this set, I hope I have captured what is my ever-evolving musical style, which is not subjected to any strictly delineated patriarchal boundaries i.e genre."

LAWAAI w/ LAN, INA, LENI & Women at Work - 7th of March 2024

LAN is a the Chinese-born, Amsterdam-based DJ, who has a passion for all things electro, bass, garage, breaks, and jungle, LAN's musical palette knows no bounds. As a DJ, music isn't just beats for Lan, it's the heart-to-heart connection that gets the crowds moving. She is one of the co-founders of the LAWAAI collective. In this collective they advocate more women to pursue their passion for music. With a super diverse selection of tunes, you can expect a multi genre madness and plenty of surprises in LAN’s set.

In this mix, only using music from female producer, LAN takes you on a journey through moody EBM, pumping breaks, deep bass, and dark electro, finishing off with jungle beats. This is a super elastic mix with BPMs ranging from 125 to 165.

This was a mix that carried a lot of my emotions and stories. I want to create something with a bold and assertive use of sound. "Defiant" implies a resistance against norms or expectations, while "decibels" refers to the level of sound intensity. Together, I want to convey the idea of confidently breaking away from conventions and making a statement through sound.

This episode, we’re thrilled to welcome Yuka Yu, a San Francisco-based DJ and producer with roots in Taipei, Taiwan. Having honed her craft in London’s Camden Town, Yuka’s sound reflects her multicultural background—Chinese, Dutch, and Japanese—blending diverse influences into deep, immersive storytelling. She’s played EDC Las Vegas, Ministry of Sound, and Jazzfest’s Rabbit Hole, and is the founder of Nu Tekno and Chinatown After Dark, two projects pushing underground sounds in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

For this mix, Yuka crafts an introspective journey through breath, nature, and Asian history, exploring the ritual of self-connection within the universe. It flows through film soundtracks, field recordings, Asian mountain songs, Mandarin pop, and ethereal Southeast Asian modular music, layered with unexpected textures—a touch of “trippy candy” weaving a dreamlike narrative. The mix embodies the feeling of history and memory, inspired by the poem:“I am the ocean of my ancestors’ grief; the shoreline where my parents’ dreams were sacrificed.”

Spring is in the air, the sun is shining, and our guest DJ Vanaenae is bringing the perfect soundtrack to warm your soul. Based in Berlin and known for her deep love of 90s house music, Vanaenae is part of Good2U Festival and has been a driving force in Leipzig’s underground scene through projects like Music of Color and Sunday Love Affair — her event series dedicated to fostering a more sustainable club culture for BIPoC and FLINTA communities.

In this mix, Vanaenae highlights Asian producers, with a special focus on Southeast Asia — featuring artists like Gato Latex (Indonesia), Sarayu (Thailand), Xiaolin (China), and rising talents from the Philippines. She starts softly, guiding us through ambient soundscapes and modern takes on kulintang gongs, before blooming into the heart of what Vanaenae loves most: soulful, groovy house. Her sound — constantly evolving — blends second-hand treasures, deep cuts, and uplifting beats, creating a journey that’s as rich and vibrant as the season itself.

This month, we’re joined by Manila Spice — a UK-raised, half-Filipino DJ based in Amsterdam. A residency with Defusedmood—one of Southeast Asia’s key D&B collectives—shaped his tactile mixing style, rooted in sharp percussion and experimental bass. He is a co-founder of Loma Sound, a platform that hosts non-profit events and channels surplus funds to grassroots organizations, charities, and initiatives supporting music, arts, and culture. Projects supported include Boardersnotborders, Wayoutarts, Embracenederland, Musikarama, and Stichtingdevrolijkheid.
 
In this mix, Manila Spice draws from long summer weekends spent in Pu Luong—where thick forest and still air meet the buzz of motorbikes and the distant crackle of karaoke at night. It’s a place caught between pause and progress, and for him, a place of quiet reflection. Field recordings and ambient textures sit alongside breaks and percussion, echoing the tension between natural calm and rapid change. The mix moves between states—holding both tension and release—mirroring a landscape, and a headspace, in transition.
