A bird flew in my open window
‘Twas a robin, red of breast
He cocked his head, looked at me sideways
As he lighted on my desk

I felt that he’d come with a message
I could not guess what it might be
But then he turned back toward the window
And he took his leave of me

As he dissolved into the foliage
Of the early spring treetops
I heard him sing his parting postlude
And my heart did nearly stop

Rolling crests and plunging valleys
His melody was like the tide
Majestic as a mighty ocean
Cozy as a fireside

You are flying in the azure
You are singing with the clouds
All you have to do is notice
So raise your face and sing out loud

The fear of dying makes you notice
The joy of living everyday
Pain and trouble is a rainstorm

Driving To The Ocean

Based very loosely on a legend from the Tillamook people

Chorus: 
Love is great and everybody wants it 
When you don’t have it, it seems that others flaunt it 
Wear the wrong love and you’ll find that it can’t fit

Verse 1: 
One day a man saw a beautiful woman 
She was very nice and he felt he was a good man 
He tried to woo her and he tried to win her 
But he was such an amateur beginner 
[Chorus] 

Verse 2: 
Then one day on a walk in the woods 
He met a little man who he thought could do some good 
The little man it seems, was a Deetkatoo 
Whom everyone knows grant wishes, don’t you? 
[Chorus] 

Verse 3: 
So he told the Deetkatoo 
Do as I ask, for I found you 
Give all I ask under heaven above 
And the one thing that I wish for is love 
[Chorus] 

Bridge: 
"Oh, no, no, no, I can’t do that! 
Oh no, no, no!" was the Deetkatoo’s chant 

At this the man became quite enraged 
And he tried to trap the Deetkatoo in a cage 
Just then the beautiful woman happened by 
And was astonished by what met her eye. 
”Who is this little man you’re caging?” She said, 
”And why does he seem to me so engaging?” 

Verse 4: 
Yes, in a strange turn no one expected 
It was the Deetkatoo to whom she was attracted. 
She had truly fallen for the little Deetkatoo 
And now I ask you, wouldn’t you? 
[Chorus] 

Verse 5: 
So now I’m here singing you this song 
It may be right or it could possibly be wrong 
Hoping you’ll pay me for my song with a buck 
Can you spare some change for a man with bad luck? 
For I was the man in this sordid tale 
The Deetkatoo took my girl and my pride as well 
The least I can ask is a little recompense 
For singing this story at my own expense.
