What can be construed as an instrumental, this piece has 7 tracks of Ingrid's vocals, some that are run through a melody layering sampler & some treated with granular effects. What may sound like synthesizers are actually some of the vocal tracks.

Performed at the Festival of Laurence Crane: A Tribute Concert on Monday 18th October 2021.

The title is an accidental pun on Laurence’s Bobby J for electric guitar. I was chatting with Patrick about putting the piece together and told him we might both have to muster up our best Bobby D impressions (aka Bob Dylan).

Ham is a space-face spaced out homage to the first great ape in Space, Ham, named after the Holloman Aeromedical Laboratory, who safely returned from Space in January 1961.

I'm a ardent fan of Fela Kuti, afrobeat, and African music in general. So, when I found I was able to create this beat, I just sat down and got out everything I've always wanted to say on an afrobeat song. This is just the first of several, though, I hope.

This is a miniature for cor anglais comprising 10 fragments that can be performed in any order. This realisation was made by oboist and cor anlglais performer Maureen Wolloshin at home during lock-down (some bird tweets remain in the background of the recording!).
Maureen chose to repeat one fragment, and I think this realisation really brings out the different timbres achieved by different techniques on the cor anglais throughout its range. The piece was also completed during the lock-down, so this is its first recorded performance!

Le pois chiche a roulé sa bosse. Arrivé à son pic de popularité ces dernières années car riche en protéines et en minéraux, le pois chiche est connu pour ses propriétés nutritives et s’avère très utile dans un régime sans viande. Poichichade, houmous, dans le couscous ou les falafels et même en farine et en eau… Le pois chiche se décline et se mêle un peu partout. Mais cette légumineuse modeste souvent présentée comme issue de la cuisine méditerranéenne possède aussi une histoire culinaire et sociale multiséculaire à cheval sur l’Inde, l’Asie et le Moyen-Orient. 

Émilie a d’abord rendu visite à Raphaëlle Jorgensen de la structure Virevent, agricultrice qui cultive des pois chiche près de la commune de Oraison en Provence. 

En deuxième partie, Joan Weisz-Myara fondateur de Street Press et vendeur de houmous à ses heures perdues vient parler de sa passion pour cette préparation onctueuse dont il donne (presque) la recette.

"The title ‘Gêmdis’ combines the Welsh words for ‘game’ and ‘dice’, and like a desperate gambler, Bethan Morgan-Williams’ piece for E-flat clarinet and ensemble keeps returning for another roll of the dice. Each new start takes the music through a different set of emotional states, from playful to down and dirty, from the still voice of conscience to the horns of a dilemma. Or does it keep returning to the same place?

Are things out of control, then, or not?

Gêmdis was written as part of the Composer Collider Europe programme for Carl Rosman and Musikfabrik."
