So excited to be hosting a mix from one of my favourite Eora (Sydney) locals, @djscorpion3000 - a talented DJ and an important member of the music community.

DJ Scorpion aka Amelia Jenner, worked as the music director of FBi Radio for the last few years, is a co-founder of the ever inspiring NECTAR ( @nectarsydney ) agency and collective, and hosts the local imprint / radio show @bodypromise alongside @hed-ardennes.

It's safe to say that Amelia is someone who's input and involvement in the local scene I find genuinely inspiring, but beyond that, her skill and on-point taste as a DJ really shines through in this driving, club-energy fuelled mix <3

artist statement from @sisterzo:

My sound has evolved a lot over the past year living in New York. While I feel everyone knows me primarily for my percussive broken beat productions and sets, anyone who's seen me play recently will know I've been leaning heavily into driving psychedelic techno and hard groove house. So I wanted to make something that reflects my evolving tastes.

In that sense this mix is very much a statement of range and intention. I'll always love UK Bass and broken beat stuff but there's nothing like a good deep grooving wormhole to lose yourself in as a DJ and a dancer. 

Also, having been heavily involved in plant medicine this past year I've been making an effort to incorporate sounds that connect with my experiences in ceremony—sometimes light and joyous, often dark, cavernous and all-consuming. But, not to take myself or this vision too seriously, this mix is first and foremost for moving your bones and shaking ass, but in a hypnotic sort of way.

Hope you enjoy it start to finish.

Flo co-founded Laib und Seele Records in 2019 during his search of self-realisation, which landed him a residency at Netil Radio London. In 2020, he initiated Traumburg Festival with close friends. Since the beginning, he placed a special focus on a unique curation and booking, which our crew at VK always appreciated. Most recently, Flo founded his own booking agency Noise Neighbours. The entity known as ‘Box Elder’ has been a longstanding contributor to the Ngunnawal scene for many years. Whether it’s through his work as one-fifth of Gross Motor Play, his raucous house party sets or his many club/doof performances, Mr Box has had many fingers in many proverbial pies. Now Eora based, the semi-retired DJ returns for a rare mix for Chalkboard that has been described by some as “proggy, swampy, trancy goodness” and described by his own mother as “harsh to the ears”. For this next Avenue Red Podcast episode we are keeping the Icelandic connection strong as we present the new Reykjavik wonderkid known as Waage.

Known for his strongly Basic Channel/Maurizio-influenced EP's, simply titled W and W² and released on Thor's Thule imprint and Exos' X/OZ label respectively, this mix follows suit along those deep, dubbed-out techno lines. However, Kristjan assures us that there are some surprises around the corner with his forthcoming releases, with some totally new ideas and sounds and a collaboration with fellow Icelandic artist/DJ COLD, who did our 118th episode. At the request of the DJ, we will leave it there! But one last thing... Happy Birthday Mr. Waage! ;)
