I've not released a new mix for a long time because I've been busy working on a new album (which you can hear soon), and the Emergence live show, which is coming in a new form for next year.  

So for this new mix I brought together some new unreleased work, a couple of pieces I wanted to bring attention to, like Attaque's amazing remix of Remnants, and some older work that's been featuring in my recent live sets.

Sprouting from the heydays of the early 90s rave scene, Terranova is an electronic dance music duo comprised of Berlin and Paris based artists Fetisch and &ME. In the words of Terranova: “We grew up and got our education in clubs and will produce and play music until we drop.”

Fetisch was born in Berlin and grew up between Brussels, London and New York. His boundary-spanning influence and distinctive personality have trademarked his position as a mover and a shaker in the underground scene.

Spending his teenage nights at New York’s legendary Mudd Club, Roxy, and Paradise Garage – Fetisch began garnering influences from punk and hip-hop to ultimately formulate the Terranova sound. He launched his career by spinning records at NY mainstay clubs Danceteria and Tunnel, and regularly DJing at illegal warehouse raves in NYC and London. Moving back to Berlin in the mid ‘90s, Fetisch formed Terranova in 1996 as a project with shifting members and various vocalists to create his visionary blend of electronica, house, hip-hop, and punk.

In 2007, Fetisch teamed up with Ghanaian DJ and founder of Keinemusik, &ME, and signed with Kompakt out of Cologne. Since then, Terranova released through iconic dance labels such as Ministry of Sound, DJ Hells Gigolo Records, Compost, Island Records and !K7. Fetisch continues his work with &ME, who is now a solid member of Terranova and their notorious famed act, The Lottergirls. They’ve gone on writing and producing soundtracks for movies and theatre, as well as a long list of remixes for groups as diverse as New Order, Roxy Music, Fisherspooner, Ennio Morricone, Gui Boratto, and Herbert Groenemeyer.

LOVELY DAY - Okersounds Vol. 015

I knew what I was doing, I was going to Burning Man; but what I did not know was just how I’d assimilate and react to all the data, images, sounds, smells ... what would become of my ex-asthmatic anxieties and the difficulties of living in this kind of environment: dust, dust, and more dust!!  

In Black Rock City you'll find all the good and all the evil of this world, the only thing that changes is how you take it in, because here the available tools of art and provocation operate differently ... so why not the music too?

Whatever one may think, there is still a comfort zone in Black Rock City. It’s about attitude: it’s always with a given attitude that you do something to then obtain a determined result, break the routine, open up to something new, not appearance at all costs, just letting everything happen because it has to happen. Running the other way in a dark hostile but magical place like this with a voice that says, "I'm not afraid, I'm here now!” the same voice you hear when you're sitting all alone in front of the pyramid of Cheope, its outline standing out majestically in the dark ... far from comforting places. 

I saw some friends collapse because, inevitably, if you let something get to you here that something will change you. I believe that these people will come away with a greater awareness. There is no magic to Burning Man: there are those who listen and those who continue to sit in their comfort zone, the same as those who from home point fingers with their two bit sarcasm.

The moment when the Man burns is certainly one of the most contemporary and modern tribal experiences I've ever witnessed, it’s like being at the centre of a big blockbuster; but where the characters are no longer Ben Hur or gladiators!

On the Monday 70,000 people left Black Rock City and on the ground there wasn’t even a crumb .. only the footprints of those who had been there, which the wind will take care to remove all traces of.
Thanks to everyone who made this experience so special. Thanks Jan, Anton, Amanda, Eduardo, Michelly, Tara, Chris, Reagan, Martinik, Susan, Rachel, Jonathan, Laura, Benjamin, Jason,  Andrew, Ko, Behrouz, Eugenia,  all the people with whom I had a conversation, and of course Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel! As time goes by and the weather gets colder, one could tell, who ever went to the german Black Forest it could be an extremely creative dark cosmos perfect for creating new sounds. It was from within this sphere the producer duo Paul Hoffer and Chris Kusterer came together and became PHCK. Chris as DJ and Paul as a classical musician started creating music together in late 2013. Soon, some tracks came together and people started to appreciate their music and encourage the duo to create more. 2014 became a busy year as they played together at Ozon Club, Pforzheim, which built up a steady reputation in its 20 years club experience for newcomers and experiments, along with releasing their output to the world, and therefore cementing their union as PHCK further. Sharing the passion and the vision to elaborate an ecstatic and sophisticated sound, PHCK work exceedingly well together. Classical Piano elements and violinist tracks are accompanied in an exclusive release.

In 2016 Paul and Chris provided Chapter 24 with a remix for THe WHite SHadows’ track 'Goodbye' that was released on the label's compilation, while at the beginning of 2017 Connaisseur Recordings released their track 'Aeris' for the Livingroom Techno 7 compilation. The spheric track peaked at #11 in the Beatport charts and was followed by another release, 'Ozon' with Rauschhaus on Manual Music. The emotional track ‘Death of A Butterfly’ was released on All Day I Dreams Summer Sampler 2017 besides great tracks of Lee Burridge & Lost Desert, Zone+, Superlounge, Gab Rhome, Budakid & Modd. In this very special and bodacious time Stefan Kling joined the musical project PHCK. As a singer and founder of a local music school since 2004 he’s predestinated for the additional touch of the project. He is a musical all-rounder and his focus lies on the piano, drums and percussions. 

In summary it can be said, that PHCK’s music is a transformation of their own emotions, meaning that there is not only black or white in their perception. Their music is a reflection of sensitivity - of love, hope, grief, reflectiveness and sometimes a cold and dark emptiness. Native, honest and a touch mysterious, PHCK’s music should be listened by everyone who is ready to admit feelings.
